Tiji Festival Trekking

Tiji Festival Trek in Upper Mustang introduces you to the chronicles of the Tiji Festival through traditional dance performances by monks to spread world peace.

The Upper Mustang trail will take you through dry terrains, yak caravans, Buddhist monasteries, and temples into villages heavily influenced by Tibetan culture and traditions. The walled capital of Lo Manthang hosts the annual 3-day Tiji Festival in the courtyards of the Royal Palace in the presence of villagers, locals, monks, tourists, and the Royal family.

The traditional dances recreate the mythological folklore of how the reincarnation of Buddha, Dorjee Sonam, got victory over a demon who brought havoc to Mustang.

The trail will cross high passes with views of snowcapped Dhaulagiri, Nilgiri, Bhrikuti, and Annapurna, never leaving your sight. The ancient caves in the red, brown, and silver-gray cliffs bear testimony of primeval settlers in the ancient kingdom.

The elaborate costumes, traditional dance performances, flavorsome history of Tiji, views of majestic mountains, and the villages stuck back in time make the Mustang Tiji Festival trek a once-in-a-lifetime cultural adventure.

Tiji festival in Lo-manthang is celebrated according to the Tibetan calendar. Upcoming Tiji festival 2022 dates are announced and will celebrate from 27th 2022 to 29th May 2022.
