TID Detains Another Suspect Involved in Easter Sunday Attacks

Colombo Additional Magistrate Pasan Amarasinghe yesterday (21) ordered to remand another powerful figure involved in the Easter Sunday attacks who had participated in Zaharan’s lectures and weapons training in preparation for the attacks, pending the advice of the Attorney General.

The suspect was produced in court after being detained and interrogated for a period of 90 days at the Colombo Terrorist Investigation Unit yesterday.

The Colombo Terrorist Investigation Unit had arrested the suspect after confirming through analysis of phone reports that the suspect had participated in extremist lectures and weapons training held in Hambantota Settikulama on July 21 and 22, 2018.

The suspect named Ajmari Zahir Abdullah, a resident of Velambada, Gampola, was arrested. The Colombo Terrorist Investigation Unit stated before the court that the suspect had participated

in the extremist lectures and weapons training of Zaharan, who conducted preparatory programmes for the Easter Sunday attacks.

After considering the relevant matters, the magistrate ordered the suspect to be remanded in custody pending the advice of the Attorney General.
