Justice Minister Harshana Nanayakkara announced yesterday (4) in Parliament that three new draft laws aimed at recovering stolen assets will be presented to Parliament in the upcoming quarter.

The proposed drafts include the amendments to the Criminal Procedure Code, the Rehabilitation and Insolvency Bill, and amendments to the Audit Act, he revealed. Minister Nanayakkara made these remarks while contributing to the debate on the Government’s Policy statement delivered by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.

During his address, the Minister emphasised that the law must serve the people but should not be politicised. He stressed that the country can no longer afford a legal system that varies based on wealth, power, or social standing. To achieve necessary reforms, he urged collective effort and confirmed that the Government would initiate a new agenda in the early part of the next quarter.
