Thoughts on Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice Ultimate Edition (2016)

Do you think I am late? Please read carefully. I am sharing my thoughts on Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice Ultimate Edition (2016). The ultimate edition started streaming on HBO Go on September 7, 2021.

In an interview with MTV to promote Zack Snyder's Justice League, the director explained the logic behind the titling of his extended Batman v Superman cut. "The [Batman v Superman Ultimate Edition], like, my director's cut of [Batman v Superman] -- which, at the time, they wouldn't let me call a director's cut because they didn't want people to think the theatrical version wasn't my version -- that version of the movie drove I think like 75 percent of the DVD purchases of the movie," Snyder said. "[It's] a thing that wouldn't exist unless I said 'Hey guys, let's make this, do this version of the movie.'"

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice Ultimate Edition (2016)

Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi | 2hr 55 min
Director: Zack Snyder

Amids t the war between Batman and Superman, a new threat arises, putting mankind in an unimaginably great danger.

Isn't it amazing how a minute can make such a difference? What do you think of an extra 31 minutes? Yes, the ultimate edition now includes 31 minutes of footage which changed everything.

If you were confused or disappointed with the theatrical cut, you have to watch this one. The Ultimate Edition made the film clearer and the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) darker.

Theatrical Version vs Ultimate Edition

If you refer to my first review - Thoughts on Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016), you will see a few issues that bothered me, starting with:

Bruce Wayne's Actions

I understand his frustration due to the enormous damage caused by Superman and General Zod fight. Several people were hurt, and some were killed. Those were people he knew and protected. But I was it was not enough for me to accept the Batman I was seeing. Until, of course, the ultimate edition arrived. Batman's actions were clarified shedding light on Bruce Wayne's reaction upon hearing:

"Save Martha."
"Why did you say her name?!"

Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice (2016)

Yes, numerous people made fun of that line. But the ultimate edition will change your perspective. Speaking of Bruce Wayne, this version presented his human side well. Remember this line?

"I failed him in life. I won't fail him in death."

Bruce Wayne, Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice (2016)

He finally saw his mistakes because he was not looking just like Clark Kent.

We Finally See Clark Kent

Yes, the alter ego of our beloved Superman is seen throughout the film. It helped people understand Clark Kent, who was raised by Jonathan and Martha Kent and is fiercely protective of Lois Lane.

And, if you connect the dots, this explains a little bit about Bruce Wayne's dreams, or should I say premonitions, as seen in Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice (2016) and obviously in Zack Snyder's Justice League (2021).

Lex Luthor, the villain

Thoughts on Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice Ultimate Edition (2016)

Let's not forget about Lex Luthor. People claim he lacks charisma and is unsuited for the role. However, I disagree. Jesse Eisenberg is a talented actor, and his portrayal of Lex Luthor is both fresh and true to the character. Isn't he a mad genius? That's what I saw in Eisenberg's performance.

But something was missing, indeed. It appears that certain scenes were omitted. The ultimate edition gave him the spotlight he deserved.

In a nutshell, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Honor Ultimate Edition (2016) does justice to the characters and story. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016) 7/10

Rating: 7 out of 10.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice Ultimate Edition (2016) 9/10

Rating: 9 out of 10.
