As a young girl, I looked up to my aunts. I still do. My love for them is almost impossible to put into words. Their presence in my life has shaped me to be the strong, loving, friendly, caring, and determined woman that I am. Therefore, I vow to be the best aunt I can be to my future nieces and nephews.
In December, my brother and his wife will welcome their baby boy, Parker, to the family. Obviously, this means I would “officially” be an auntie (if we are getting technical). The arrival of my brother and sister-in-law’s son will be one of the best days since my existence because I will gain yet another amazing man to love for my (and his) entire life.
For me, I have always loved children. I can’t resist giving them snuggles, kisses, and cuddles whenever I can. But, I have never loved a kid more than I love my nephew… and he isn’t even born yet! How can that be? Perhaps it is because we share the same blood. Maybe it’s because I love their parents so much. I don’t know why or how. I just know that the love is indescribable. I am so proud to be an auntie!
Here are ten thoughts that go through your head when you become an aunt:
- I will love this baby as much as my own children (whenever they are born/adopted one day).
- I feel strangely protective of this dear child. BACK UP ALL YEE WHO PLAN TO HARM MY NEPHEW!
- He needs clothes. All the clothes I can buy, I will buy. His closet shall be filled with all things from me for every single stage of his life. And I intend on spoiling him with awesome toys. Ones that I will play with when he loses interest. Goodbye paychecks.
- Dear every person who wants to hold, kiss, or snuggle MY nephew when I am around… go away. I am not sharing.
- I don’t need an excuse to do kid things, but it’s nice to have one. Good lookin’ out, Parker <3
- “Kristin, why are you watching Daniel Tiger?” “Uh… gaining knowledge for my nephew.”
- It’s official, I am now the coolest person in the eyes of the children. At least, they better think that or I am not buying them beer illegally when they go to college. Sorry, Kelly.
- My goal as auntie is to know things his parents won’t know. Come to me with all the secrets, mwhahaha.
- My wisdom can be passed down to this dear boy. Much to his father’s dismay
- I AM THE ULTIMATE BAE (Best Auntie Ever)!
Completely unwarranted life lesson from a married woman #36: Yesterday, Ryan and Kelly named me Godmother of Parker. What an honor to now be an auntie AND the Godmother. I am so grateful and proud to be more than just an aunt in this sweet boy’s life. Cheers to all the aunties and Godmothers out there. You are appreciated, you are loved, and you are the BEST ever. Always remember that.
