This Weeks Anniversaries

Horror movie enthusiasts, and also awful movie enthusiasts, will recognize this weekend as the 30th Anniversary of C.H.U.D. CHUD opened to 1.7M, and would go on to gross 4.6M domestically. With an 18% on Rotten Tomatoes, CHUD is also known for having a terrible sequel. John Heard and Daniel Stern starred in the original.

This is the 20th Anniversary of Milk Money, which you may have enjoyed as a child/teenager. Melanie Griffith and Ed Harris starred. The film opened in 5th with 5.8M, and finished with 18.1M domestically. A 5.4 IMDB rating, and an 8% on Rotten Tomatoes suggest this is not an enduring classic.

And five years ago was the release of the already forgotten All About Steve, which released against Gamer. I always thought Gamer was better than the weekend allowed it to be. Gamer has a 5.8 on IMDB, and a 29% on Rotten Tomatoes, making it the highest rated film I’ve written about in this post.

This is a weak weekend for films, and studios usually avoid releasing enduring classics on this weekend.
