Revival Bootcamp Devon
So, if you follow me on Twitter, you’ll know that I arrived back from Bootcamp yesterday and yes, literally every one of my sentences now starts rather smugly with oooooh well at bootcamp..
I’m so so proud that I survived but before I tell you about my amazing results, here’s a rundown of day one. I went to bootcamp with one aim which was to go to Vegas in April with minimum jiggle. I knew Bootcamp would be tough and waiting at Barnstaple station with two fellow bootcampers, sneakily snaffling the last couple of Sharon’s wine gums (tut tut), I imagined us being hustled and bustled into a mini van while an Army man made us drop and give him 20 before we could get in.
As I saw two tiny sports cars come in to sight and two even tinier ladies get out I felt instantly at ease. Jan and Gerry took us back to the house and they couldn’t have made us feel more at home. I dumped my suitcase in my en-suite room which was beautiful and toasty warm and was introduced to my lovely roommate who had already arrived two days earlier. I spotted a cosy robe and a pair of slippers and was happy I’d chosen a bootcamp that didn’t scrimp on little luxuries.
Starter salad and a fake dessert spoon…
After a quick brief and a couple of house rules regarding contraband in camp, we sat down to dinner. After a small heart attack and the realisation that nothing was indeed hiding under the salad as I had at first hoped, I looked around the room to see similar signs of devastation etched on the faces of my fellow bootcampers. As I ate my salad in silence, a spark of hope flickered at the end of the tunnel as I spied a dessert spoon shining from the table settings. This actually turned out to be a red herring, one of Marty’s jokes and it was at this point that I realised I hadn’t gone a day without something sweet in 2013. Eeeeeek! This was going to be tough.
Speaking of tough say hello to Marty…
We rose at 5.30 am to be weighed and measured and although it was the middle of the night, I found myself a little excited about the first day of bootcamp. I also found out that although I’m actually 27, my metabolic age is 33 and that in order to improve this I would have to improve my diet and step up my work outs. Finding out the exact measurements of my thighs and hips was just the motivation I needed to embark on bootcamp with determination. Although I didn’t know it yet, this was exactly what Marty had in store…

Day One Bootcamp Breakfast..
The food, although small was delicious and it turns out I’m a lot less picky about food after a 5.30 am, 5k run. By the time breakfast arrived, I was so grateful that I even ate a mushroom *gasp*. Things that I would normally never include on my plate before 11 am or at any time of the day really such as peppers and Rye bread were inhaled without a second thought. We had a small snack that consisted of guacamole and tomato dip with a side of sliced veggies which I ate before I had chance to take a photo followed by a small bowl of pesto pasta which was wheat free but still pretty wonderful post workout.
Low calorie lunch…
For someone who drives to the corner shop, day one of Bootcamp was without a doubt a challenge but the trainers tailor the workouts to suit everyone’s individual fitness levels and add an element of fun that makes time fly. During the day I clocked up hundreds of press ups, sit ups, lunges and squats and learnt the delights of military press, plank raises and discovered you don’t have to sit down to do a sit up. Abs was my favorite part of the day as it was indoors and I got to lie down for a split second. Most of the training was outside which meant donning at least 8 thousand layers before braving the cold. I think I wore all of the clothes I packed before the day was over and after a re-aligning massage I flopped into bed expecting to be at least two stone lighter in the morning.
