Nice mustache, clown.
I’m a fair weather fan of the Mariners. I got into them when Junior Griffey, A-Rod, Edgar Martinez and Randy Johnson were rocking the Kingdome in the mid to late 90′s. Johnson was one of the best pitchers, Martinez one of the best hitters and Junior Griffey was the best player in the game. A-Rod came along and it seemed we’d be good to go for years. That never happened. In fact, the Mariners had their best season after all of them had left and Ichiro had arrived. Now, 11 years later, they’re pretty much a disaster. Ok, maybe not a disaster but a franchise that hasn’t really done anything relevant in a long time. They’ve got some good prospects on the rise and a decent core of young players. Unfortunately they have a terrible manager who doesn’t seem to grasp what winning baseball is all about even though he didn’t it once upon a time in Cleveland.
So two things happened in the last few days that are frustrating the hell out of me:
1. This was today, in the 9th inning, with the lead, and two outs. They eventually lost the game in extra innings.

2. Eric Wedge, the Mariners manager had this response to a question posed to him about runners in scoring position (RISP.) “It’s different. If I have to explain it to you, then you don’t understand. I can’t. I don’t have enough time to explain it to you, because if you don’t know, then you don’t know. And you’re never going to know. If you don’t get it, you don’t get it and you’re not going to get it.”
Um, what. the. fuck? Seriously, Wedge? Is it that hard to give a legit answer? If you want to read the whole article and the question leading up to is, please do. What you shouldn’t try to do is understand a word of what this guy is trying to say. I can’t stand this guy. Put money on it, this team will not succeed with him as manager.
Blerg, this team had been playing well of late but these two events just make me want to hurl.
Thanks to Deadspin for the video.
