Donald Trump and the Republicans claim they have "fixed" the economy. What did they do? They gave massive tax cuts to corporations and rich people. They are still convinced that their failed "trickle-down" economic policy will work, and if they just give enough money to the rich, everyone will benefit. The problem is that nothing trickles down.
Now they want to complete the overturning of Obamacare, and they have a court case trying to abolish pre-existing conditions protections in insurance policies. Like their economic policy, this will help no one but the rich.
If you just look at GDP and the stock market, you might be lulled into believing they have improved the economy. But those indicators don't tell the truth about how most Americans are doing economically.
As the chart above shows, far too many Americans are worried about being able to afford the basic necessities of life. About 37% worry about being able to afford food, 41% worry about paying the rent/mortgage, 43% worry about paying utilities, 45% worry about affording prescriptions, 46% worry about transportation costs, and a whopping 67% worry about an unexpected medical bill.
That doesn't sound like a great economy to me. It sounds more like an economy teetering on the brink of disaster.
The chart is from a recent Kaiser Family Foundation Poll -- done between August 23rd and 28th of a national sample of 1,201 adults, with a 3 point margin of error.
