5 Things to Do Today if You Feel Stuck:

Kelli Mutchler, www.toomutchforwords.com

1. Download a foreign playlist.

Did you know you can change your iTunes store location?  And with it, the artists and albums featured?  Switch your preferences to New Zealand or Malaysia and download the free song of the week.  Listen to it when you start to feel overwhelmed and remind yourself: the only thing keeping you from hearing this at a live gig is a few extra hours of work, and a plane ticket.

2. Cook Cambodian.

Or Ethiopian.  German.  Something you’ve never eaten before.  Look up a new recipe and head to the grocery store.  In buying ingredients and learning how to create a foreign cuisine, you’ll be challenging more than just your taste buds.

3. Take a different route home.

Stop along the way.  You’ve passed that coffee shop or new store a hundred times.  Today, make five minutes to buy a latte or look through the window.  Discovering a new perspective is one of the gifts we gain from travel; but, who says you have to leave home to find it?  Even if it’s only two blocks long, seek out an unknown location and let it change your journey.

4. Say “Yes” to the next invite.

Whether you’ve seen the movie or read the book, Yes Man, take inspiration from this simple, one-syllable word.  When you’re on the road, you want to throw yourself into every moment.  Why not do the same today?  Say “Yes” to the next invite you get – to a meeting, a party, a protest, a movie – and thrill in the newness of your random decision.

5. Pick a friend.

A classmate, a work acquaintance, even a distant cousin.  Send them an e-mail or Facebook message, just checking in on their adventures.  Though there’s a sad stigma to the phrase “living vicariously through someone,” it might take the displeasure off your own situation to learn more about the life of a friend.  Reconnect and remember that this network could give you an excuse to visit, in the future.

As always if you would like to suggest five things to do today then please just e-mail me. You might want to add your name to the friends to like and follow list   in order for you to make connections easily.

Thank you for reading.
