This post is requested by my friend and I do hope it helps other makeup beginner as well! This is the first of the eye makeup series that I’ll be sharing with you all! I’m no professional makeup artist but these are the tips and tricks and knowledge I’ve learned a long the way. :)
Okay first off! You might be wondering where to begin with the eye makeup products and tools… here are the basics! They don’t need to be crazy expensive and drugstore brands will do. That’s how I started my makeup obsession and eventually when you get the hang of it, you’ll want to buy more. True story.
- Brushes - when I first started out, the 3 most used eye brushes for me are eyeshadow brush, blending brush and angled eyeliner brush. I haven’t explored much on other brands cos I’m happy with my Virginia Olsen eye brushes. They’re also affordable!
- Primer or eyeshadow base - you will need this especially if you want your eyeshadow to last longer on your lids, to avoid creasing, and for your eyeshadow to look more vibrant. Nyx jumbo pencils works great as eyeshadow base (try the white shade called Milk), and also easy on the pocket!
- Eyeliner - there are diffent types of eyeliner such as pencil, liquid, and pen (I wrote an article on this 2 years ago, read it *here*). If you’re just new to applying eyeliner, I highly suggest pencil type as this needs the least stable hand. Top of mind would be Ever Bilena or ELF pencil eyeliner for cheap yet pigmented liner.
- Eyeshadow - there are cream, loose, and pressed powder type of eyeshadows. And they also come in different finishes like sheer, matte, shimmer, or glitter. I usually use loose or powdered ones, and I love shimmery shades. Start with neutral colors! Visit a makeup counter for you to feel the difference in texture, finish, pigmentation, etc of each kind.
- Curler + mascara - lastly, this duo! ELF eyelash curler is okay, but if you want to go more high-end, I recommend Shu Uemura. For mascara, definitely try Maybelline!
