Where do the disappeared go? The girls and women who vanish, seldom to resurface. Allen Kimbo, a freelance reporter, believes there is a network of men who guard their "taken" and keep the silence that surrounds such deeds. An email lures him to Eastern Europe, to a meeting of the Takers and Keepers. His girlfriend, Emily, pleads with him not to go. In Belgrade more is revealed than he had thought possible. Back at home, Emily is missing.

I'm new to the author. The blurb made me want to read the book as human trafficking disturbs the hell out of me. There's something about it that makes my skin crawl. The main character is a journalist and I haven't read many thrillers where they take centre stage, so this offered something different for me. I couldn't put the book down once I started to read even though it disturbed the hell out of me and made my flesh crawl at times. I'm surprised by how short the book is considering how weighty the subject matter is. This will stick with me for a long time.
