Story: Theatre Camp starts when a documentary filmmaking crew sets up to follow a struggling theater camp. However, the founder ends up in a coma on day one of filming, leaving her son Troy (Tarto) to run the show. Troy is different and leaves the original teachers Amos (Platt), Rebecca-Diane (Gordon), Glenn (Galvin) and others to organize the next show.
The camp must come together for the latest performance. Meanwhile, Troy tries to find the best ways to make money for the camp to keep it afloat. It leads to him going down alternative paths using the campers to help fundraise.
Verdict on Theatre Camp
Theatre Camp is a comedy musical mockumentary. It follows a struggling musical camp trying to turn its finances around. However, the founder’s son isn’t prepared for the new responsibility and is unaware of what the camp means to everyone involved.
This movie seems to get caught up in the middle of trying to be an entertaining mockumentary and an oddball comedy musical. Because of this, we end up seeing nearly all the comedy miss despite having a deeper meaning to what the camp means. It shows the chaotic nature of putting together a performance, even if the story feels like is misguided for the most part.
Where to Watch
JustWatchFinal Thoughts – Theatre Camp is a comedy which misses nearly every attempted laugh.
