‘The Yellow Submarine’ Yet Again

By Rohit Dassani

Our last visited to the brand-new restaurant ‘The Yellow Submarine’, was filled with exciting dishes and drinks. The open setting of the restaurant is something you shouldn’t miss. Located right across IIM, Bangalore the ambiance specially in the evening’s is mind boggling. The restaurant opened its microbrewery couple of weeks ago and we went there to try it.

The new microbrewery menu comprises of 6 carefully crafted beers. These include the Kolsch, Dunkles Weizen, Pomegranate Beer, Russian Stout and the Bittersweet Symphony. We went straight for the samplers so that we could choose our option. The Kolsch was light ale with a spicy floral aftertaste. The Dunkles Weizen was dark brown and cloudy made from wheat. The Pomegranate Beer had a sweet citrusy taste. If you love dark beer along with the taste of chocolate, coffee and vanilla then the ‘Russian Stout’ is the best choice. And lastly the Bittersweet Symphony was exactly like its name, sweet from the caramel and burnt sugar and bitter from the extra hops.

The Pomegranate Beer had the most thrilling flavors and we had few glasses of it. The best thing about the fruit crafted beers is the fact that these are seasonal. The last season was of sapota and this one was Pomegranate. Probably the next one would be a Mango flavored beer, how exciting it would be?

To top of the beers we ordered the Smoked Hummus Samosa and the Mediterranean Veg Pizza. The Smoked Hummus Samosa was the best dish we liked the last time and is didn’t disappoint this time. With onion filling the samosas are best tried with the house made hummus made from chickpeas and paprika cream to give it a bold red color. The dish is topped with pickled cucumbers. Once you have one you cannot stop eating these amazing samosas, you shouldn’t miss this! The Mediterranean Veg Pizza was delicious as well. Made with Spinach, beet root, feta cheese, dill and red onions it a packed with flavors. Love it!

We wanted to try something from the Indian Palate and we choose the Veg Platter with Stuffed Mushroom, Paneer Tikka, Malai Broccoli and Dahi Ke Kebab. The Dahi ke Kebab were soft and almost melted in the mouth. The Malai Broccoli were large chunks of this veggie marinated with heavy cream and spices. The Paneer Tikka was a bit spicy and goes perfectly with the beer. The Stuffed Mushroom was also spicy and had a filling of paneer.

For the desserts we tried the House-made Snicker Bar. This is a close reconstruction of the Snicker bar with layer of Almond Praline, Milk chocolate Mousse and salted caramel glaze on the side.
