The World’s Top 10 Best Installation art of 2013

It has been a long hard year for many of us indeed. But there have been a few things to smile about along the way. From weddings to births to celebrations of getting that one job left on the market! And over in the art World they has carried on making some truly amazing art for everyone to see, enjoy and discuss. So to celebrate the New Year I thought I would bring you what I think is the very art from it…

Cai Guo-Qiang “Heritage 2013″

10 – Heritage 2013

This rather large art install uses light, reflection, textures and colours to create an almost animal heaven like view. With 99 replicas of animals from around the world all drinking from a blue lake surrounded by pristine white sands it is clean, fresh and simply beautiful.

Yayoi Kusama’s “Souls of Millions of Light Years Away”

Yayoi Kusama’s “Souls of Millions of Light Years Away”

9 – Souls of Millions of Light Years Away

Using a simple but incredibly effective infinity mirror room the artist Yayoi Kusama created something that not only looks good in the pictures, but I would imagine is nothing short of mind-blowing experience to see in real life.

Ivan Puig's

Ivan Puig’s “Milk”

8 – Milk

We have all seen some great uses of old VW beetles in posts like “Top 10 Volkswagen Beetles in Gardens” but this use turning it into a clean and very modern looking art install by Ivan Puig is one of the very best. This was definitely one of my favourites.

Alex Chinneck’s “From the knees of my nose to the belly of my toes”

7 – From the knees of my nose to the belly of my toes

The name of this art installation might sound like the start to a funny limerick, but this is no joke, this is an art install that is basically the whole front of a house sliding down!  Made by artist Alex Chinneck it is one that baffles the eyes as well as the brain on how he did it!

Henrique Oliveira’s “Baitogogo”

6 – Baitogogo

This jaw dropping art install by Henrique Oliveira represents the parasitic growth of urban building while poor sections of the same cities and towns are being left to rot! I think it portrays that wonderfully and looks incredible at the same time.

yasuaki onishi

yasuaki onishi “reverse of volume MI”

5 – Reverse of volume MI

If you think you are looking at a white sheet hung by wire to make it look like a mountain range you need to click on the image and see the truth, because what you are in fact looking at is hot dripping glue and a sheet of plastic! Simply mind-blowing.

Jeff Leatham’s “Sexy Golden Reindeer’s”

4 – Sexy Golden Reindeer’s

One of the most impressive festive themed art installations I have seen is this incredible work of art by artist Jeff Leatham. 2 reindeer’s and a Christmas tree made in a solid gold style is nothing short of sexy indeed and simply beautiful.

The World’s Top 10 Best Installation art Works

Leandro Erlich “Dalston House”

3 – Dalston House

This simple but deadly effective art installation resembles a rather simple looking Victorian terraced house with a mirrored surface positioned overhead at a 45-degree angle meaning you can see yourself hanging from windows, walking like Spiderman or doing a classic Batman walk up the wall! Art doesn’t get much more fun than this.

The World’s Top 10 Best Installation art Works

Jaume Plensas “Wonderland”

2 – Wonderland

This massive wire mesh art install is over 39ft high and resembles a young girl’s head. The sculpture has two entrances so you can walk inside of it to inspire everyone who visits! I think Jaume Plensa the artist has done just that to many, many people. Simply amazing.

The World’s Top 10 Best Installation art Works

Jorge Rodriguez-Gerada “wish”

1 –  Wish

Made with an incredable 30,000 wooden pegs, 2,000 tons of soil and 2,000 tons of sand this is one of the largest land-art portraits ever made in the UK! Created by artist Jorge Rodriguez-Gerada it represents the hopes, dreams and wishes of a Belfast Child.
