The Woman Who Accused Nelly Of Rape Wants The Case Dropped
Early 00’s hip-hop throwback Nelly was arrested on rape charges last Saturday. A woman accused him of sexually assaulting her on his tour bus after a concert in Auburn, Washington. TMZ reports that the alleged victim is now requesting that the investigation be halted and the case closed. In a statement, her lawyer says that the woman feels that she would never be able to get justice seeing as she’s a civilian and Nelly is a formerly popular rapper who used to inexplicably wear Band-Aids on his face.
In the press release, attorney Karen Koehler explained her client’s decision to drop the charges.
Koehler says the young woman feels the system has failed her and she can’t stand up to a celebrity. “Who will believe her. People are saying horrible things already. She cannot handle this. She is about to break.”
The unnamed victim, who is described as a “21-year old college student,” is also reportedly distressed because a detective allegedly promised that her talking to police and prosecutors would be confidential until the investigation is over. And then she found out that the police commander released a statement to the media about it the next day. Thanks, guys!
Koehler added … the woman was especially dismayed by the fact police told the media she had met with them and prosecutors — after she was assured no one would know about the meeting until the investigation was closed.
Instead of shutting his mouth and moving right along when your client probably escapes a rape charge (Nelly could still be prosecuted but it would be difficult to get a guilty plea without the alleged victim’s testimony), Nelly’s attorney publicly blasted the woman.
Nelly’s attorney Scott Rosenblum tells us …the accuser’s “reckless accusation, once investigated thoroughly, was exposed for what it was-a fabrication. A fabrication that has caused Nelly and his family to suffer emotionally and financially.”
Scott Rosenblum also wants a public apology from the woman and claims he’s urging Nelly to take legal action against her. And this story and that sort of threatened reprisal is sadly a familiar one when it comes to why a woman might not pursue sexual assault charges against a “celebrity.” Nelly gets the quotation marks because dude hasn’t had a hit in close to a decade.
