So what do you get when you put three controlling women in one room? No this is not a joke...actually it is a blessing. Being somewhat attentive to the cost of my daughter's wedding, I scoffed at the idea of hiring a wedding planner. You see...in some sick way...I like taking on more than I can possibly chew. It is like walking up Mount Everest with flip flops. Not advisable but can it be done....hmmm...well let's not ponder that right now.
I joke that my daughter and I have been at complete odds on planning this wedding but the truth is I learned early on in the process to shut my mouth and love the moment more than the linen choice. But once you get through all of the fun stuff like picking out the favors and deciding on the flavor of the wedding cake, the tough stuff comes in. It is then you need to call in the troops or the assistance of a handy dandy wedding planner.
The wedding planner will do more than help you choose a location or modes of transportation. She will be there to help guide the wedding ship into port. There is a lot going on the day of the wedding. From primping and curling hair...to saying "I do"...to the bride and groom's first dance. Each and every part of the day will have its own time restraints and restrictions.
The very best thing every mother of the bride can do for herself is ATTEND her daughter's wedding. What is that suppose to mean? Be a guest that day. A wedding planner will allow you to be just that. She will go over with you a thousand times what you are looking for on the big day and then will do so when the time comes.
You don't want to be sitting at the back of the church getting all of the girls in line to walk down the aisle. You also don't want to be sitting at the reception getting ready to enjoy your meal and have one of the waiters whisper that a case of wine just fell off the counter and broke. That will be for someone else to handle that day.
Of course, the wedding planner will be as involved as you want her. Coming from a control freak, this was no easy venture for me. I want Danielle's wedding to be perfect...without a hitch...this is what I have learned from that thinking...everything is perfect. Sure a set of dishes might come crashing down in the kitchen but for the most part the guests will never know of the blunders behind the scenes.
If a wedding planner is definitely not in the budget, find a trusted friend or cousin to help. Most women were born to run things so for a day they will be in their glory.
