Help with indexing Soon, Polygon blockchain support will be added to The Graph.
Soon, polygon-based apps will be able to run on The Graph’s fully decentralized application programming interface (API), even if they are hosted by a different company than they are now.
A Thursday article says that Polygon developers will be able to find the data they need to make their dapps run better if they join The Graph Network. Node operators on the Polygon network can help by becoming Indexers for the network’s distributed applications. Indexers get paid for serving subgraphs and also get paid for queries.
APIs make it possible for many computer programs to talk to each other. The Graph’s hosting service let decentralized applications (dapps) index and query user data from multiple blockchains, no matter what network they were based on.
Complex smart contract projects, like Uniswap, store data on the Ethereum blockchain. This makes it very hard to get anything but the most basic information from the blockchain directly. This meant that developers might have trouble or have to wait when they wanted to use data from other decentralized apps in their own products.
The Graph solves this infrastructure problem by indexing blockchain data with “subgraphs.” These “subgraphs” work like APIs and can be queried with a normal GraphQL API, which is an open-source programming language for APIs that can be used to ask for data.
Polygon is the second most used supported chain, after Ethereum but before Gnosis.
The integration of Polygon is part of a larger plan to replace The Graph’s hosted service, which is currently used by 39 networks, with its own decentralized network, Gnosis.
