Showrunner Matthew Negrete revealed in an interview how the spin-off "The Walking Dead: World Beyond" will tie into the parent series, and more specifically the character of Rick Grimes.
AMC We were waiting for answers in The Walking Dead and these will indeed come, not in the horror series but in its new spin-off The Walking Dead: World Beyond, expected for October 5 (broadcast on AMC in the United States, and Amazon Prime in France). In an interview with our colleagues on the site ComicBook.com, screenwriter and showrunner Matthew Negrete explained how this new series, featuring new characters in the universe Walking dead, will be linked to the mother series, in particular through the community of the three rings responsible for the disappearance of Rick Grimes since the current of season 9. Here are his words:
We introduce a new world that features characters linked to this symbol of the three rings. We saw Rick leave the ninth season of The Walking Dead in a helicopter adorned with this symbol. And we will learn more about these helicopters. So the show explores that part of this world that we've glimpsed in the other shows, which is cool, but it's also a show whose story works independently of the others.
If it seems unlikely, but in any case not impossible, that Rick Grimes appears in The Walking Dead: World Beyond, there is no doubt that these episodes will provide us with valuable clues as to its location, while the feature film The Walking Dead - whose shooting has not yet started - will allow us to discover what we are already announcing as "the epilogue" of the character played by Andrew Lincoln.
