The Van That Time Forgot, In North Cyprus

By Gail Aguiar @ImageLegacy

the van that time forgot (Esentepe, Cyprus)

North Cyprus doesn’t have many major roads. So when a vehicle gets abandoned and painted over with graffiti it becomes a roadside attraction, especially at sunset.

The van is located along a stretch of road by the sea near the village of Esentepe (Agios Amvrosios in Greek). The road is well-travelled; plenty of people stop by to look and take photos. Locals tell us that the van’s been there for a long while, and it was even lived in, for a time. It’s definitely uninhabitable now, and unlikely to be towed anywhere. It will remain, growing rustier by the week, parts falling off until someone pushes it into the sea or an enterprise decides to take over that piece of land and clear it away.

Until then, this metal scrap on wheels looks curiously out to sea, waiting to be rescued.
