My Review: Samantha Sweeting's only life is her job as an attorney and her only ambition is to become partner. When her dream is within her reach disaster strike and Samantha is left reeling and with few options. Wanting to get far away from anyone who would know or recognize her, she finds her self at the door of beautiful house where she takes a job as a housekeeper. A job which she has no actual skill which is readily apparent to everyone but her employers. Being the perfectionist workaholic that she is, she throws herself into being the best housekeeper she can be and stumbles into a romance in the process. But her past soon catches up with her in the most unconventional manner Samantha wants to have it all...but can she?
On the story...
While not my favorite Sophie Kinsella book, I enjoyed this one all the same. The reader has to suspend their disbelief a bit to imagine that a prominent and successful (and likely wealthy) lawyer would take a job as a housekeeper. I mean her mistake was HUGE but I'm not sure that being a housekeeper is the next logical step. There are fewer random plot twists that I've come to expect from Sophie Kinsella but endearing characters are present. Let's not forget all the trouble the characters often find themselves in. The romance is sweet though not my favorite. It's a solid funny read for one of those days. I'm not quite sure what I think about the ending. I really couldn't see why her decision had to be so extreme but I would love to hear thoughts on that. I'm a bit biased.
On the narrator...
I love Rosalyn Landor and she did a fantastic job here as well. I especially loved her voices for Samantha's snooty but lovable employers. Her accent is right-on as usual.
Overall...
If you haven't read Sophie Kinsella or listened to one of her audios, I would probably start with a different one but definitely get to this one eventually. It was a fun read, but I couldn't help comparing it to some of the others I had read.
