The Too Much TV Rounup- October 5th

Posted on the 06 October 2022 by Sirmac2 @macthemovieguy

Holy crap. Five days into the month so far? FIVE? This month has flown by. i even missed the day Aaron Samuels asked Cady what day it was.

1) What We Do In The Shadows (FX/Hulu)

English Audio Description?: No

Sometimes, every once in a while, I allow a non-audio described title to rise to the top of the list. And S4E9 of What We Do in The Shadows was worthy. A delightful episode called Freddie, where you know that something will be up with this titular character. But I never could have predicted this plot. Guillermo has secretly been in a long distance relationship with a Brit who comes to New York to visit, and much to his surprise, finds the house. At first, Guillermo is terrified for different reasons, but once Nandor meets Freddie, something awakens in him, and he beings to want what Guillermo has. So the whole episode is about Guillermo and Nandor both wanting and desiring the same guy, but in true Shadows form, this couldn’t possibly happen in any normal way. Loved it.

Episode Grade: A

2) Andor (Disney Plus)

English Audio Description?: Yes

I think this episode earned an A just from the presence of Stellan Skarsgard. I mean, some other stuff happened, but I did start to lose faith in Cassian’s intelligence for a minute, but then Stellan swooped in with his new character intro, and made everything better like he always does.

Episode Grade: A

3) The Outlaws (Amazon)

English Audio Description?: Yes

The whole lady Gaby subplot, plus the tension surrounding Tyler, is what really put this over the top. Lady Gaby having to make this speech, and Myrna stepping in and calling bullshit was perfection. The fact that Lady Gaby, who started wanting to protect the building just because they had been working so hard to restore it during their community service, was accused of being a White Savior, was such an asinine plot twist. The only reason she was working with Myrna’s organization was because she’s friends with Myrna, not because she has some deep rooted desire to lift up the black community. She would have worked with Save The Whales if it meant she could stop that building from being demolished. We knew that, so to see her being accused of other things that are really just a byproduct of circumstance was a bit much. I knew the show knew that too when that one nasty reporter accused Gaby of trying to get follows, and then dropped her own insta in the interview.

Episode Grade: A

4) Never Have i Ever (Netflix)

“I like you, but I don’t know if I can be with you until you like yourself.” Damn. That stung. That’s so true. But it really hurt to see Davie have to hear that. She needs to get the counseling fast, because I’m not even mad. Davie is so worried about how other people see her, that she can never focus on how Paxton sees her.

Episode Grade: A-

5) The Equalizer (CBS/Paramount Plus)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Did someone get Equalized? Oh yeah. there was some addition, subtraction, and then came the equalization. Wait, This show isn’t about math? Or a math teacher? Oh, it just picked up from where we left off last season with Robin having just been kidnapped, and her team and family scrambling to save her, and protect the city from a dirty bomb. It’s always good to show your hero as vulnerable from time to time, and this episode did that.

episode Grade: B+

6) LaBrea (NBC/Peacock)

English Audio Description Available?: Yes

After seeing people return as aged up versions of themselves, I’m making a bold prediction as to how this show is planning on mindfucking you at some point in the near future. You know how Gavin found out his parents are still alive, but Silas made a promise that he intends to keep, and he’s trying to protect Gavin? I’m calling it right now. Josh is Gavin’s father. Not only is Josh Gavin’s son, but he’s also Gavin’s father. Since those two teleported back in time, and are at a different opening, I’m banking when they return it won’t be in the same time period as before, and they will be getting busy at some point, which will lead to the birth of Gavin, and the realization of how much of this has been set in stone from the beginning.

Episode Grade: B+

7) Gutsy (Apple Plus)E

English Audio Description?: Yes

Basically, do you want to watch an interview with Hillary/Chelsea and Dr Jane Goodall? This is the episode for you.

Episode Grade: B
