The Too Much TV Roundup- June 26th

Posted on the 26 June 2022 by Sirmac2 @macthemovieguy

I have nothing snarky to start this post today. Really. I don’t.

1) Hacks (HBo MAX)

English Audio Description Available?: Yes

This show is continued brilliance. This episode saw the gang at a state fair, and I don’t know which moment was funnier. Seeing Ava choke on one vitamin, or her comment about the 800 dollar pair of shoes that she knew would help get that Susan lady some serious commission. Great episode.

Episode Grade: A

2) Breeders (FX/hulu)

English Audio Description Available?: No

I need to sit down in a room with the Emmy voters. We have to talk about how their nominations are consistently awful. The fact that Martin Freeman has never been nominated for his work on this series is not reflective of the show or his work, but rather indicative of a larger problem that Emmy voters don’t watch a broad spectrum of enough TV shows. I should be an Emmy voter. I watch more TV ( i guarantee it) than half of the voters for sure. If you’re not watching Breeders, you’re missing out. I know it doesn’t have audio description, but it tells a really well put together story for a half hour.

Episode Grade: A

3) Gaslit (Starz)

English Audio Description Available?: No

Final episode. I feel like this show ended on a solid note. I don’t know really what I was expecting this to close on, but it chose its own ending. Since I’m not old enough to remember this time period, I didn’t know Martha died so long ago. It’s funny how even though everyone else may know something historically, you’re still waiting for the result of something because you didn’t pay enough attention in history class.

Episode Grade: A, Series Grade: A

4) The First Ladies (Showtime)

English Audio Description Available?: no

Final episode. So, I learned a lot about the Fords. This show leaned in heavily on Eleanor’s sexuality. It also didn’t really give me much about Michelle or the Obama’s we didn’t already know. Looking back, i almost wish this had just been a miniseries about Betty Ford, because Michelle Pfieffer was so damn good, and this show actually made me like Gerald Ford. Otherwise, a lot of the impressions were weak, and especially from Anderson and Davis, it’s some of their weakest work because their careers are so strong. I never felt Eleanor, I just felt Margaret Thatcher. I never felt Michelle Obama, I always heard Viola.

Episode Grade: A-, Series Grade: A-

5) Roar (Apple Plus)

English Audio description Available?: Yes

This one flipped the weird around in a new way. I thought it would be about gender roles as the husband (Jake Johnson) stayed home and took care of the newborn, while mommy went back to work. But then things got weird. Very weird.

Episode Grade: B+

6) A Very British Scandal (Amazon)

English Audio description Available?: Yes

So, was this 3 episode long series created to make me hate the Duke Of Argyle? Because, how this series ends, I need a break from Paul Bettany. History fucked up. This show ended in the most frustrating way. The Duke Of Argyle is clearly an asshole, and the fact that he won, while the Duchess wasn’t perfect, was incredibly enraging.

Episode Grade: B, Series Grade: B

7) Close Enough (HBo MAX)

English Audio Description Available?: Yes

Finally an episode that made me laugh a little. I forgot this was only TV-14 and not TV MA. This was Season 3, Episode 5.

Episode Grade: B

8) Made For Love (HBO/ HBO MAX)

English Audio Description Available?: Yes

Needing more people to join the hub so her father wouldn’t know he was in the hub just reminded me that this show is the less funny version of Upload.

Episode Grade: B-
