The Too Much TV Roundup- August 7th

Posted on the 08 August 2022 by Sirmac2 @macthemovieguy

One show I didn’t even finish the episode before giving up. Which one was it?

1) For All Mankind (Apple plus)

English Audio Description?: Yes

When you’re so personally invested in the characters that you envision yourself bitch slapping Margot down the hall for firing Molly, you know the show has great writing. Look, she may be a girl, but molly is a blind character working at fucking NASA, and I’m a blind film critic. If you didn’t think I’d have a strong reaction, and that Margot is now dead to me, you clearly misread this situation. And molly was right, as it was shady to create this entity without Molly’s knowledge, and throw it casually into the end of a memo, like her job no longer exists anyway because it got turned into a committee. I didn’t think Ed needed to remind Danielle that she’s a black woman, and that Margot likely factored that in. Knowing Margot’s choices, sure, it was probably a thought, but at the end of the day, I think she would have chosen Danielle if she were white. If she were a man? I don’t know. Both of those characters are a little old to be leading a Mars mission to be honest, but they are series regulars who we are invested in. Anyway, loved seeing almost everyone get what they wanted in the end. Danielle is leading NASA and Ed is leading Helios. And Molly really loves her bathtub.

Episode Grade: A

2) Only Murders In The Building (Hulu)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Did Hulu reveal the killer in Episode 5? Is Cara Delevigne’s character the equal to the Son of Sam for this season? This episode surely wanted you to think that, by heavily leaning into “the killer is trying to get close to you” idea, putting it against a reappearance from Amy Ryan, reminding us of the chemistry she had with Steve Martin, and then that reveal right at the end. Could it be the new cast addition? in Episode 5? I feel like that’s a bit early, don’t you?

Episode Grade: A

3) The Lincoln Lawyer (Netflix)

English Audio Description: Yes

In the 6th episode, we learned what might finally be the truth Mickey has been looking for. But, the big question is, will the series change it up from the book and the movie, and go a different way? Will they finish this case this season? these are now the questions I have.

Episode Grade: A

4) The Lake (Amazon)

English Audio Description?: I don’t know.

I couldn’t get it to play, which seems really odd. This would be the second new Amazon original without audio description. granted, i didn’t go in and turn it on before launching into this episode, but my other shows have audio description, and it knew without my prompting to play a movie with audio description right before this. like, literally right before this. If it doesn’t have audio description, it’s cute enough that I might just keep watching it. I’m at least interested to see what the plan is to get the sister out of the cabin, as the first episode was all just set up.

Episode Grade: B+

5) God’s Favorite Idiot (Netflix)

English Audio Description available?: Yes

This show just… no. And I love Melissa McCarthy. I’d literally follow her anywhere, except to this terrible sitcom where she plays second fiddle to her far less talented husband, on a show with some terrible writing, that is never funny. This reminded me of that terrible Jamie Foxx sitcom he was on. Like, Jamie Foxx could have literally made any show he wanted to with Netflix, and he made that. I feel the same way here. Melissa McCarthy had carte Blanche to do any story, and THIS was that story? no. I didn’t even finish the second episode. I stoped it, and removed it from my queue.

Episode Grade: D-
