The Too Much TV Roundup- 12/11/23

Posted on the 12 December 2023 by Sirmac2 @macthemovieguy

The Golden Globe nominations came out and several TV shows managed to work their way onto the list. But, mostly Succession.

1) Bodies (Netflix)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Limited

I’m enjoying the mystery of it all, but my complaint is the same. Even as the story impresses me, there are too many damn characters across too many timelines, and these episodes feel crammed and jumbled. I shouldn’t always be wondering who the hell someone is. but, every episode so far, I either wonder who they are, or what timeline we are in.

Episode Grade: B+

2) Billions (Paramount Plus)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Final Season

Chuck’s right hand, Ira, has his phone stolen which has sex tapes on it that ira would really not to leak, so Chuck stands by his man and works diligently to get the phone back. Meanwhile, Taylor is still trying to find an in road to take out Prince, and finds a way to do it.

Or at least begin the process…

Episode Grade: A

3) Our Flag Means Death (MAX)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Not Yet Renewed

Love is still in the air, as Calypso’s birthday is celebrated. However, another band of pirates seems hellbent on ruining that day, and Steve gets a taste of his first kill.

Episode Grade: A

4) Wolf Like Me (Peacock)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Not yet Renewed

Gary is still very mad about what happened in the basement, even though his life is so weird at this point you would think nothing would phase him, and that sends him spiraling. I love seeing Josh Gad act tough. He actually has some nice moments here.

Episode Grade: B+

5) The Other Black Girl (Hulu)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Limited

Nella is getting closer to the truth, and realizes by the end of the episode, whatever Hazel is doing is on a larger scale than she first thought. This show is getting really good, and a lot creepier.

Episode Grade: A

6) Alias (Disney Plus)

English Audio Description?: No

Status: Ended

Always like to remind people that this show doesn’t have audio description, and deserves it. It’s a spy drama that always has fight scenes without dialog. Luckily, i watched this the first time around, so I’m enjoying seeing the show that made me love Jennifer Garner and Bradley Cooper, but it needs audio description. This episode sees them still trying to find the mole, they think maybe Sidney, Dixon is injured, and luckily Sydney’s dad figures it all out in time to save her and keep her cover.

Episode Grade: Unwatchable

7) Saturday Night Live (Peacock)

English Audio Description?: No

Status: Renewed

I laughed at a lot of the sketches this week, and the odd stuff host Adam Driver was asked to do. Audio description would have been nice to fully understand the Julia Stiles cameo, but you would also need to have seen the film, which would also need audio description. I need to stop giving this show a pass, live audio description is possible, and I watched this on Monday, so they had plenty of time to make this accessible.

Episode Grade: Unwatchable

8) Last Week Tonight (MAX)

English Audio Description?: No

Status: Renewed

I do believe past seasons of this are described. They could do a better job of getting it there quicker, but this is almost a podcast as is, with the large amount that John Oliver just talks. This week, trains. And, I once again feel like I know more about something I knew nothing about. Also, his opening takedown of Mike Johnson is excellent. It’s a great juxtaposition to bring up the fact that the speaker is more concerned with the privacy of the rioters but has no problem learning about his son’s porn habits, or having his son learn about his.

Episode Grade: A
