The Too Much TV Roundup-12/08/23

Posted on the 09 December 2023 by Sirmac2 @macthemovieguy

The cancellation sword is still swinging, as AMC inexplicably cancelled Lucky Hank after one season, and ABC is slowly purging Seattle Grace, with the announcement that Season 7 is the final season of Station 19. So, not a great news day for TV fans. Also, RIP to Ryan O’Neal, who was a fantastic actor (watch Paper moon), and a sexy 70’s icon.

1) Beckham (Netflix)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Limited

We look at Beckham growing as a parent, and also making a tough choice to move to Spain from England to play ball.

Episode Grade: B+

2) Yellowjackets (Paramount Plus)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Renewed

Even though I can see the writing on the wall for the major death in this episode, I still don’t approve of it. Also, I’m realizing that this show can’t run forever, and I’m wondering if the producers are looking at a 4 or 5 season run, because I don’t think it can go past five at the pace they are moving.

Episode Grade: A-

3) Solar Opposites (Hulu)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Unknown

A Silver Cops episode! I love this show so much. I love that they don’t need to touch base always on the core characters, and have things like this, and the story of the people living in the wall thanks to Jessie as full on story arcs.

Episode Grade: A

4) Upload (Amazon)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Unknown

Nathan must meet Nathan in order to save Luke. The two versions team up to save Luke from the Grey Zone, meanwhile Ingrid tries to reclaim her life, and we get a potentially game changing twist at the end. Nora!

Episode Grade: A

5) The Santa Clauses (Disney Plus)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Unknown

I’m going to need Scott to acknowledge the fact that he has a third child more than he is. Even if he just mentions Charlie from time to time. It’s so weird that he keeps acting like he only has two kids. I know Charlie appeared in Season 1, but I’m not asking for an appearance. I’m just asking that he act like he remembers his oldest kid. The Mad Santa story isn’t doing anything for me.

Episode Grade: B-

6) Silicon Valley (MAX)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Ended

They still have to secure the name rights to Pied Piper, and TJ Miller’s guy takes some shrooms to go on a spirit journey to think of an alternate name.

Episode Grade: A-

7) Desperate Housewives (Hulu)

English Audio Description?: No

Status: Ended

Still gonna need audio description to figure this show out. Lynette’s kids steal from an old lady, then apologize, and end up with peanut Brittle and helping to expand her backstory. Bri learns how to be a dominatrix. And Mike gets shot by… someone? This is why I need audio description.

Episode Grade: Unwatchable

8) The Masked Singer (Hulu)

English Audio Description?: No

Status: Renewed

I thought one of our eliminated was someone else, but two actual singers got sent home. The one left in that costume is 100% Macy Gray. It was confirmed in the passing note when Ken admitted he had worked with Gray, who was also in Training Day with Denzel Washington. I figured it out based on the Denzel clue, and the judges are on board too. It’s weird to advance a costumed contestant we are pretty much 100% on.

Episode Grade: B

9) Bosch Legacy (FreeVee)

English Audio Description?: No

Status: Renewed?

I hate to be a stickler here, but this doesn’t work without audio description. There was that whole police stop, and then people came along and broke in her car, but did they take anything? Because she checked, and it didn’t seem like they did, so now I don’t know what happened. Thanks to Amazon for cancelling the audio described Bosch, and moving the cast to a new show on FreeVee where audio description is sketchy.

Episode Grade: Unwatchable

10) Frasier (Paramount Plus)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Renewed?

It’s Freddie’s birthday which lures Lilith back into town. This now marks the third show I know of that Lilith has appeared on, since she also originated on Cheers. Kudos to Bebe Neuwirth, and all the jokes made at Alan’s expense were worth it.

Episode Grade: A-
