The Too Much TV Roundup- 11/29/23

NBC has decided to stick with its Freshmen dramas Found and The Irrational for a second season. Hopefully, they stick with Quantum Leap as well. Especially if they are sticking with the incredibly formulaic Irrational.

1) Chucky (Peacock)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Still going

You know, in the season 2 finale, when Chucky starts reading about the silent chainsaw… I knew we were going to see that in action. I did not think it would be used in the way that it was. And for so long. Jesus. A bit much even for this show. That Caroline part was certainly a twist. I know where Season 3 is headed, and I’m already dreading it. But, Season 2 was insane, bonkers, and in its final moments, very very gory.

2) Beckham (Netflix)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Limited

My favorite part of the documentary is when the documentarian tells David that it looks like no one uses the kitchen, and David’s counter to that is, “I know. I’m just that clean.” Like, the reason the candles look like they are there just for show is because David doesn’t like the look of dirty candles, so he personally comes through and cleans them off. As well as the entire kitchen. David, now would have been an excellent time to just give a shoutout to whoever you have working for you that cleans your damn house, because no one believes for a second that one of the biggest soccer stars ever and his pop star idol wife actually clean their whole massive place by themselves. Just admit to having a great support staff. Damn dude. We know all rich people employ others. But don’t act like it’s you on your hands and knees scrubbing all the time.

3) Still Up (Apple Plus)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Unknown

Danny finally leaves his apartment to go rescue his eventual other half, and immediately regrets it based on all the bizarre interactions he has. Poor guy.

Episode Grade: B+

4) Pain Killer (Paramount Plus)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Limited

They spend most of the third episode talking about the primary suspect who was hiding out in New York, but also how Tylenol responded to the whole thing by trying to make their bottles tamper proof. Definitely some light shade being thrown their way when it is suggested they knew the bottles could be tampered with before the Tylenol Murders.

Episode Grade: A-

5) The Other Black Girl (Hulu)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Unknown

A look at Hazel’s history leaves us with a surprising end of the episode, as they see she has had to change everything about her, and has only existed for about a year. But, she also has a boyfriend who is very real and a barber. Meanwhile, more drama and I still think this show will have an absolutely insane ending.

Episode Grade: A-

6) Young Love (MAX)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Not Yet Renewed

That cousin who needed more male presence in his life is back. Our young daughter has a complicated friendship that involves roasting her friend that adults think is bullying, her dad gets stuck playing a video game, and her mom spends more time with her grandmother. And grandpa still wants his rent.

Episode Grade: B+

7) Invincible (Amazon)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Not Yet Renewed

Mark is trying really hard to not be his father, but Sterling K Brown has something to say about that… at least in what appear to be alternate universes. In the primary universe, Mark is supposed to marry someone from Atlantis, but then is told to fight a creature, and sort of disobeys orders when he stops the creature from killing the Atlantean Queen. I mean, that all probably makes no sense if you don’t watch the show, but I promise you. That’s only half. There was some other drama, and some house selling, and side stuff… but Mark is Invincible.

Episode Grade: A-

8) Ugly Betty (Netflix)

English Audio Description?: No

Status: Ended

Betty tries too hard at her first assignment, and also her loser boyfriend shows up. Betty fans, I’m hoping he either gets recast, rewritten, or killed off. If she ends up with this dude, then I seriously don’t know why anyone likes this show. He’s obviously the worst thing in it, and every moment he’s on screen, my soul is slowly destroyed. Get. Rid. Of. him.

Episode Grade: B

9) Alias (Disney Plus)

English Audio Description?: No

Status: Ended

We’re starting to get involved in the Russian spy element here and I think visually some things are happening, if I remember correctly, that we need audio description for. Also, Sydney has to pass the ultimate lie detector test, because Sloan is determined to find a mole.

Episode Grade: Unwatchable

10) Name That Tune (Hulu)

English Audio Description?: No

Status: Unknown

Watched this one with my mom, and she enjoys guessing along. We got to the point in the first show, where a contestant guessed “Can’t Help Falling In Love With You”, and was penalized for including the For you section. And she was like “Oh, i guess they ahve to get it exactly.” And I was like, no they don’t. They just have no discernible rules as to when they let it slide. Then, in the second half, there were at least two instances where the title was not 100% accurate, and they took it anyway. Extra words only matter sometimes. It really depends on if they want you to win or not. I said what I said.
