The Too Much TV Roundup- 11/24/23

Posted on the 25 November 2023 by Sirmac2 @macthemovieguy

What did you do for Black Friday? Did you buy some awesome gadgets? Any physical media? Did you finally splurge on that air fryer even though you don’t cook but you hope by owning an air fryer you will be more inclined to cook?

1) Neon (Netflix)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Not Yet Renewed

It’s charming me more and more with each episode. The gang gets an offer to shoot a music video, while their would-be agent gets shot down at work even though clearly she saved the day, and our budding musician has a nepotistic interview for a fall back job because his parents don’t believe in him.

Episode Grade: B+

2) The Hardy Boys (Hulu)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Final Season

The penultimate hour finds the Hardy Boys figuring out that this new found happiness may not be all that it seems. Sure, they just got rescued by their dad and mom (who they thought died in the Pilot episode 2 seasons ago), but Joe and Frank are just that good at being detectives, and realize that this reality is coming at a cost.

Episode Grade: A

3) Our Flag Means Death (MAX)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Not Yet Renewed

Our favorite gay pirate drama finally has reunited the most unlikely couple, as they take up refuge with a lesbian couple with very interesting relationship dynamics. Also, Taika definitely missed an opportunity to play Nelly Furtado, but I’ll forgive that.

Episode Grade: A-

4) Upload (Amazon)

English Audio Descritpion?: Yes

Status: Not Yet Renewed

I totally see what they are doing here, by showing that the real world is so shitty that of course people would upload. It’s also some national holiday that seems to have merged Thanksgiving, Black Friday, and Cyber Monday all into one eating and shopping day. Luke also starts what seems like his own religion with the AI.

Episode Grade: A

5) Dreaming Whilst Black (Paramount Plus)

English Audio Descritpion?: Yes

Status: Not Yet renewed

One of the most surprising new shows of the year saw a screening finally happen, and career momentum. I was totally with the show until that Uncle leaned in and called out our lead for using his cousin for his own gain while implying that his cousin doesn’t benefit at all. I disagree, sir. It was clearly stated that his music is in the film, and for an incredibly low level rapper still hustling, if this movie took off, it would lead to more people checking out his music. And, again, he was a street hustler, who no one knew, and now people do. Calm your titties sir.

Episode Grade: A-

6) Virgin River (Netflix)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Part 2 Comes Later

Finally at the end of part 1, and this was like Midway for Virgin River because bombs were being dropped. Charmaine, who has been pregnant since Season 1, reminding us all that this entire show has taken place during the length of a pregnancy that still hasn’t produced babies, has an encounter with someone who not only we thought was dead, but apparently is the father to those twins? Preacher is freaking out because a body was found in the woods. Muriel and Cameron are going to fuck and she lets Doc know, looking for his blessing, and he tells her to be careful, not fully giving his blessing, and also says for them to behave at work. Doc then goes on to tell Hope that he’s in the clinical trial, which could actually speed up his blindness. Lizzie might be pregnant, but I told her not to worry, it’s Virgin River, and if she’s pregnant now at the end of season 5 part 1, she likely won’t have the baby until season 11 or 12. Lots of time to plan. Brady is finally revealed to be an informant. Oh, and Mel wants to start a family with Jack, but she gets a call from her sister saying she found some love letters her mom had that strongly suggests their long lost father is a resident of virgin River. Far too obvious for it to be Doc, so I’m guessing she’s about to find out her brother is Jack. But only after they get pregnant.

Episode Grade: B

7) The Golden Girls (Hulu)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Ended

Near the end of Season 6, and Sophia might have to skip out to Sicily. There’s a moment where Dorothy has to randomly sing Mr Sandman to a baby, and i was thinking… this is probably the moment she knew she was going to leave the show.

Episode Grade: B-

8) The Morning Show (Apple Plus)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Renewed

Is Bradley about to get sideswiped by her own girlfriend? Who is going to win this power struggle, Paul (who might have a shady past) or Corey (who is becoming more and more of an unlikable figure with each episode)? Also, can we give Tig Notaro more to do? Thanks.

Episode Grade: A
