The Too Much TV Roundup- 11/22/23

Posted on the 23 November 2023 by Sirmac2 @macthemovieguy

Well, looks like Jenna Ortega is unable to film Scream 7 due to Wednesday, so the world just became a lot less interested in a 7th entry… unless they pay up to reunite Nevé Campbell with her franchise. Maybe even Patrick Dempsey? Just a thought.

Also, a Happy Thanksgiving to yours today. Enjoy all the food. However you eat, may it be plentiful and delicious.

1) The Witcher (Netflix)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Renewed

It’s hard to tell exactly what the plans are for the next season without Henry Cavill, but they seem to be turning Siri into her own badass. I don’t think anyone would watch that show, but it’s a valiant effort. Have they even announced who would be replacing him? May I suggest Nikolai Coster-Waldau? The Kingslayer looks appropriate for the series, and we know he can fight with a sword. He also can’t be that expensive, and the Game Of Thrones fans overlapping here would love to see him appear.

Episode Grade: B

2) Yellowjackets (Paramount Plus)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Renewed

So, yeah, we have to talk about things you cannot unsee… or unhear. When Shawna gives birth in Season 2, i was skeptical and untrustworthy of where we might even be headed with this. Then, a certain scene happens, and whether it was a fever dream or not, I can’t unhear that. On the plus side, there’s a little reunion with what seems to be the surviving members of the Yellowjackets at Lotte’s cult. I guess that spells disaster for some of the Yellowjackets still alive in the flashbacks who aren’t in the future.

Episode Grade: B+

3) Found (Peacock)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Not Yet Renewed

I’ll be shocked if Found doesn’t attempt a second season. This episode was so uncomfortable, but so good. She has got to soundproof her basement so she’s not worried about him.

Episode Grade: A

4) Young Love (MAX)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Unknown

I loved the angle of the father teaching his daughter music. I liked that he actually knew how to formulate a chord. So many people now just play around with programs and add beats, it was nice to know this character understood the most basic chord on a piano.

Episode Grade: B+

5) How To become A Cult Leader (Netflix)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Limited

I barely knew the subjects of this docuseries, and while it was informative, because now I know more, I also feel like why didn’t I know who this was? But, I finally finished this series.

Episode Grade: B

6) Everwood (FreeVee)

English Audio Description?: No

Status: Ended

Damn. this show is terrific. Not only did we have this whole storyline with Delia acting out, but the series was truly punctuated by a conversation about teens on anti-depressants and having a conversation about the stigma around it. using Amy as the center, this early 2000’s drama continued to explore Amy’s perpetual grief with the idea that she needs a medication so she can function. And, it leaves you with the idea that what may be right for one, may not be right for all. Well done. I know it doesn’t have audio description, but Everwood is just fantastic.

Episode Grade: A-

7) Saturday Night Live

English Audio Description?: No

Status: I’m positive this is renewed.

Some of the sketches involving Jason Momoa worked, and some did not. What I love, is that Jason is fully down to clown, something rarely asked of him on film. He genuinely seems to be happy hosting, in a way that feels like a child’s wish fulfillment, and not any promotional tour.

Episode Grade: B+

8) Last Week Tonight (MAX)

English Audio Description?: No

Status: Renewed

Of course Oliver won that bird contest in New Zealand. but it’s how much he won it by that’s impressive. Over 200K votes, from 195 countries, which is more than are in the United Nations. Also, Oliver brought an important story to the front that shouldn’t be politically divisive, if you have ever been in a Dollar General, Dollar Tree, or Family Dollar, you know they are dumpster fires. He explains why. Basically, we have to stop shopping there.

Episode Grade: A

9) All Rise (OWN)

English Audio Description?: No

Status: Final Season

As the series inches closer to finishing, one couple comes closer to the altar. I wish OWN would keep this going, since they don’t really have any other original dramas with any kind of buzz.

Episode Grade: B+
