The Too Much TV Roundup- 11/12/23

Posted on the 13 November 2023 by Sirmac2 @macthemovieguy

The final season of The Crown starts this week, so get your spot of tea ready. But for now, here are the shows I crammed into my Sunday.

12) Clarissa Explains it All (Paramount Plus)

English Audio Description?: No

Status: Ended

As I was trying to decide which show was going to be last, i figured I’d pick the one that had a line that made me think way too hard. I have a few shows with essentially the same grade, but this episode of Clarissa, where Ferguson’s wealthy friend is only using him to try and get Clarissa, at one point uses the line “Young Americans Junior Yacht Club”, which made me think that there must be a non-Junior version of the yacht club that is still Young Americans. It’s redundant. This line has haunted me. The episode was fine, but I really have over thought what exactly this means.

Episode Grade: B-

11) Home Improvement (Hulu)

English Audio Description?: No

Status: Ended

Randy is in a band… and they are so awful i lowered it a half grade. No one needed to hear that.

Episode Grade: B-

10) Step By Step (FreeVee)

English Audio Description?: No

Status: Ended

I will admit that committing to trying to follow this show on Free Vee, where some of the episodes are missing, is a challenge somewhat, but I’m pretty sure the episode started off about one of the kids having a birthday coming up, and then somehow became about these two getting married. We’re these two not married at the beginning of the show? Why are they trying to balance wedding planning and this birthday?

Episode Grade: B-

9) Chip and Dale’s Rescue Rangers (Disney Plus)

English Audio Description?: No

Status: Ended

The gang has to rescue another dog. This episode didn’t feel familiar to me at all, and I felt like I saw this whole series as a kid.

Episode Grade: B-

8) Everything now (Netflix)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Not yet Renewed

So the show seems to be about a teenage girl who is released from a mental health facility after dealing with an eating disorder. There are many references casually pointing to this being the reason she was there, but it’s not really specified which disorder, or why. While the pilot did mention her current feelings on food, most of this is about her trying to catch up on what she missed, by making a bucket list of things her friend circle all seemed to accomplish while she was away. Basically, it’s like she watched Season 1 of Euphoria, and felt the need to try and cram that all in. I have no idea which angle this show will take, and it’s interesting that its runtime suggests its being presented less as a comedy, although Sex Education does have a long runtime for a comedy.

Episode Grade: B

7) Wolf Like Me (Peacock)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Not Yet Renewed

josh gad and isla Fisher are back, and they are trying to navigate their new relationship, as well as the impending baby. Gad really wants her to have an ultrasound to make sure the baby is doing fine, and makes a lot of jokes about “is it human?”, but that just made me wonder that if it isn’t human, then what do you think the doctor’s reaction will be? And what will you do about it? Think.

Episode Grade: B

6) Ugly Betty (Netflix)

English Audio Description?: No

Status: Ended

Holy cast additions batman! In one episode, Salma Hayek makes her bold new appearance, along with Debi Mazar showing up, and Wilhelmina being given a daughter who is in her rebellious phase. It was a lot to cram into one episode, plus Betty learns the dark truth about her father.

Episode Grade: B+

5) Rick and Morty (Adult Swim)

English Audio Description?: No

Status: Not Yet Renewed

If you haven’t heard the news, we have new voice actors for Rick and Morty. Morty is a bit closer, Rick is a little noticeable that it isn’t the original voice actors, though I have to commend Adult Swim for trying to find people who did exceptional impressions of these two, and being willing to pay more than one actor, so they could get it right. This was also a crazy story, featuring Hugh Jackman (not actually, but someone pretending to be him), and a wild night.

Episode Grade: B+

4) Doom Patrol (MAX)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Final Season

God, when Cliff made that choice in the Part B premiere I was so upset. but I love this show, the cast is crazy talented, the writing is off the charts, and that ending was a doozy. I can’t believe we have to say goodbye to Doom Patrol.

Episode Grade: A-

3) Young Sheldon (MAX)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Renewed

Sheldon spends time with his MeeMaw getting into video games. And it turns out Georgie might actually be good at something.

Episode Grade: A-

2) Mr Robot (Amazon)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Ended

i finally started this show… again. So, I definitely have seen the pilot before, but it actually has audio description on prime video. What a pleasant surprise. A great show, and a terrific pilot episode with human audio description. Although, with mr Robot, if it was a stylistic choice to have some Hal sounding voice, I wouldn’t be as mad. it would almost feel on brand considering the material.

Episode Grade: A

1) For All Mankind (apple Plus)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Unknown

I’m a big fan of this show, and I lament every year how it never gets Emmy attention. It is easily one of the best shows airing right now, full of serious dramatic performances, and nuanced characters. Now that we’re this far into the series, some beloved cast members are no longer with us, but it is still comforting to see certain familiar faces, even if I do feel like Margot is about to have a rude awakening. A strong show with incredible moments, and a look at what our reality could have been like in an alternate timeline.Episode Grade: A
