The Too Much TV Roundup- 07/15/23

Posted on the 16 July 2023 by Sirmac2 @macthemovieguy

Your fall TV lineup from the networks looks really different. Lots of game shows, reality shows, and non-scripted programming, plus content from the international market.

9) Dinosaurs (Disney Plus)

English Audio Description?: No

Status: Ended

I’m into the second season now. Junior ends up at his dad’s worksite. Will his dad’s boss eat him? These are the deep questions.

Episode Grade: B-

8) Dave (FX)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Not Yet renewed

Also forever known as the Brad Pitt episode, this episode was so bizarre, but Brad Pitt’s level of commitment to this episode made it something else. Hearing him trying to rap while using autotune made me realize Emmy voters don’t watch Dave, because i can’t imagine how he missed out on the Guest Actor nomination.

Episode Grade: B

7) Justified (Hulu)

English Audio Description?: No

Status: New revival episodes start next week

It looks like they’re trying to have Walton Goggin’s character once again walk the fine line between good and bad. Other than that, this show is pretty consistently docked because it’s a bitch to follow without audio description.

Episode Grade: B

6) The Wonder Years (Hulu)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Will Probably Be Cancelled

Yeah, summer burn offs are never a good sign. Especially considering ABC could have used this in the fall. They still chose the summer. The family is split up, with Dad and son up in NYC, while the rest of the family is back home, so they can be visited by their aunt. Who may or may not get them into trouble.

Episode Grade: B+

5) Frasier (Paramount Plus)

English Audio Description?: No

Status: Revival Coming Soon

They’ve done this plot already this season, where Frasier unsuccessfully juggles two women at once.

Episode Grade: B+

4) Nora From Queens (MAX)

English Audio Description?: No

Status: Not Yet Renewed

Parts of this were hilarious. A show with Aquafina and Boen yang on paper is perfection. But, some lements would have benefitted from audio description, like Nora’s run in with an Elf, or basically any of the physical comedy Boen does.

Episode Grade: B+

3) Never Have I Ever (Netflix)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Final Season

Why do I feel love in the air all over the place? I mean , I can basically see who pairs off this season. Davie’s mom is having this odd back and forth with Margo’s single dad. Eleanor will obviously take her human man baby back. Paxton and the new teacher will probably happen. And while Davie and Margo become quasi-siblings, things will get further complicated when Davie doesn’t choose the stoner, but ends up with Ben. That’s my whole prediction from this episode.

Episode Grade: A-

2) The Good Wife (Paramount Plus)

English Audio Description?: NoS

Status: I don’t understand why Alicia’s son won’t just tell her what he’s up to. She kind of already knows. But this was a cool episode, when Alicia realizes she’s doing a case with a co-counsel who isn’t really a lawyer.

Episode Grade: A

1) The Big Door Prize (Apple Plus)

English Audio Description: Yes

Status: Renewed

holy shit. Cass’s mom is a bitch. Like, wow. I mean, I genuinely bought that her and Cass were making headway, then she had to stand on that stage and just give that whole speech. I really was hoping she’d fall into a manhole afterward and fulfill her potential of becoming a ghost. Missed opportunity. But, I have to hand it to the writers for some solid misdirection.

Episode Grade: A
