The Too Much TV Roundup- 06/19/23

Posted on the 20 June 2023 by Sirmac2 @macthemovieguy

Well, filming on 1923’s second season has been postponed until after the writers strike. I get the feeling these strikes are going to last for a while.

10) Designing Women (Hulu)

English Audio Description?: no

Status: Ended

The ladies and their somewhat problematic boyfriends prepare to celebrate New years.

Episode Grade: B-

9) Friends (MAX)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Ended

Whence we last left off, Monica and Richard broke up, and Chandler reunited with Janice. This is not a fair trade. Monica spends the episode mourning the relationship she ended, and smoking cigars, while Joey submits himself to trying to tolerate Janice. The best bit was the opener when the gang went into Central perk and there were other people in their seats, and they didn’t know what to do.

Episode Grade: B+

8) Beef (Netflix)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Limited

While the show has grown on me a bit, it still isn’t something I love. We are almost at the end, and I think this won’t end well.

Episode Grade: B+

7) Justified (Hulu)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Revived

Raylon diffuses a situation without shooting anyone, and just some good old fried chicken. however, one of his past interactions is getting out of jail, and being a thorn in his side.

Episode Grade: B+

6) Frasier (Paramount Plus)

English Audio Description?: No

Status: Revived

The first third of this Valentines themed episode has Niles in a sequence without dialogue, so that was fun for me. The second two parts were funny, but a third of this episode was actually unwatchable.

Episode Grade: B+

5) A Small Light (Disney plus)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Limited

As Neve ran though the ransacked shop, I was thinking this was the moment that the Frank family was captured. I was quite relieved to see them hiding, though we all know how this story ends.

Episode Grade: A-

4) Barry (HBo)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Final Season

hank thinks he’s got a solution to his problem, which sounded pretty good, except they were apparently no match for Fuchs and his ragtag group of randoms. I think, perhaps if one of the randoms had sustained some kind of injury or died, I might have thought this made some kind of sense. But, the final season seems hellbent on taking all the main characters and putting them in situations where they might literally all die.

Episode Grade: A-

3) Class Of 09 (Hulu)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Limited?

The time jumping is a bit confusing at times, but this show is always raising the stakes, and someone you think isn’t going to die, seems to die. Kate Mara and Brian Tyree Henry are both excellent.

episode Grade: A-

2) high Desert (Apple Plus)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Unknown

Nothing really beats a parrot that keeps saying “Fuck me daddy.” Over and over. I will not give context. Patricia Arquette’s energy in this show is fantastic, and while I wasn’t a fan of the pilot, I’m so glad I stuck with the series. Now, Matt Dillon is starting to contribute, and I’m excited for the possibilities.

Episode Grade: A

1) Sweet Tooth (Netflix)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Renewed

I will be so daring as to say that I believe this show deserves Emmy consideration. Episode six was fantastic. And that ending, when everything seems to finally be good again, and then we see that sadly it won’t be for someone, was extra heartbreaking. I did kinda want our two Animal Army members to find the bus, but maybe later?

Episode Grade: A
