The Too Much TV Roundup- 02/07/23

Posted on the 08 February 2023 by Sirmac2 @macthemovieguy

Well, sports fans. 8 shows entered today, but not all of them will survive. Some, because their season naturally ended. And others… well… you’ll find out.

8) Alert! (Fox/Hulu)

English Audio Description?: No

First, this is the third episode “Zoey”. There have just been far too many moments where I’ve needed audio description. Too much action, people getting shot at, or shot, and it’s a recurring problem not going away. Since there isn’t audio description, because… well… Hulu, then I have to assume there never will be. On top of that, in the third episode of a show that is vying for a loyal audience and a second season renewal, in the middle of trying to find a missing girl, and having that whole ticking clock, “if we don’t find her in the next few hours” part of the plot, this asinine writers room thought, wouldn’t it be cool if we had two of our main characters fuck? I mean, I know they’re supposed to be in a race against time to find this missing college girl, but nothing makes them hornier than a good missing persons case. So, Alert, Fox, and Hulu want me to not just continue to watch a show that lacks accessibility, but is also offensively stupid? I’ll pass. Thanks.

7) 7) Emily in Paris (Netflix)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Glad to see that Pierre didn’t die and that this series didn’t… wait. no. I’m not. This show could use a dark turn every once in a while. Otherwise, Emily just keeps having to deal with this immovable object that is her best friend’s boyfriend, and Gabrielle drunkenly told Emily that he loves her. She didn’t take the bait, and just threw him in his home and left. Good girl.

6) Dead To Me (Netflix)

English Audio Description?: Yes

I kind of feel like a lot of logic is going out the window in this final season, like Jen has a baby inside her that’s making her entertain questionable decisions like trying to get them to drop the charges against Ben or possibly turning herself in. I’m telling you, I have not heard one rumor about this finale, but if this show doesn’t end with Judy confessing to everything before she dies of cancer I’ll be shocked.

Episode Grade: B+

5) Slow Horses (Apple Plus)

English Audio Description?: Yes

I’ll admit, sometimes I forget who someone in the supporting cast is. I’m here for Gary Oldman. But, this was the season finale, and all the major plots seemed to resolve. Oldman really does play this kind of goofy leader, but also someone who is unsuspectingly smarter than anyone thinks. A third season? OK.

Episode Grade: B+, Season 2 Grade: B

4) The Recruit (Netflix)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Now I’m just getting picky. This is just the 4th episode of this series for me, which already has a second season renewal. Max is already out. By the fourth episode. I don’t know what lies ahead but the most interesting dynamic in this show has already drastically changed due to her release from jail before the halfway mark of the first season. The expectations are now really high to sustain what they’ve managed to do so far in the first four episodes, but without this element. I think it’s too soon, but maybe they’ll prove me wrong. I wasn’t wrong when For Life thought that the whole gimmick about him being in prison should be solved in the first season, as the show got cancelled when no one wanted to watch the “after” part, of a struggling lawyer who had been in jail.

Episode Grade: A-

3) Leopard Skin (Peacock)

English Audio Description?: Yes

I love how this show is so entirely unique on multi levels. in episode seven, we definitely got a surprising ending to the episode, and I really didn’t see that coming. At least, not in the totality it went for. While my top 3 shows all have A’s, this one is in third because the newest hostage is annoying. The all female lineup was working well, now there’s this guy. And he’s annoying as all get out, but hopefully short lived since next week I believe will be the finale.

Episode Grade: A

2) Kindrred (Hulu)

English Audio Description?: Yes

I kept wanting them to bring someone else back with them. So many missed opportunities. if her aunt had gotten through the door just at the right time and reached her hand out, she would finally see her niece isn’t crazy, and a bunch of people would have seen three people vanish before their eyes.Still, I love that they are now better prepared, I believe with a gun and pedialyte.

Episode Grade: A

1) Riches (Amazon)

English Audio Description?: Yes

The same day I named it as one of my Top 10 dramas of 2022, I also finished with that killer finale. This is the soapiest of soap, and I’m HERE for it. Amazon, renew this series right now. Don’t you do me like this. I need answers! I need to know! I love that everyone is in a different place than when the show started, and Season 2 I can already feel is going to slay. SLAY! Riches! Watch this show!

Episode Grade: A, Season 1 Grade: A
