Early commissions came from locally based brands Pacific Iron and Glenn of California, through which he worked with greats such as Greta Magnusson Grossman. In 1953, he began his longtime collaboration with North Carolina manufacturer Thayer Coggin, which still produces his classic designs—including the Tighten Up Recliner, see next slide—to this day. First introduced in 1965, the chair stows a host of hidden luxuries and finely crafted details beneath its understated appearance, including a reclining mechanism and a walnut frame.
