Fans of "The Big Bang Theory" were delighted: Kunal Nayyar and Melissa Rauch found themselves in the series in which the latter is the star... with a kiss to boot!

Howard would not like Raj and Bernadette's reunion at all. Fortunately, they have nothing to do with the characters of The Big Bang Theory and everything to do with their interpreters, Kunal Nayyar and Melissa Rauch, who found themselves for an episode in Night Court, the series of which the latter is the star.

Spoiler alert! This article reveals key elements of the plot of Night Court Season 2 Episode 7 (2023).

Fans of The Big Bang Theorywere you a little uncomfortable seeing Kunal Nayyar et Melissa Rauch kiss in Night Court ? You weren't the only ones.

" It's really funny because it's like kissing your sister ", said Kunal Nayyar laughing, in an interview with TVLine. In the February 6 episode of Night Court (2×07), the unforgettable interpreters of Raj and Bernadette met again... and even shared a kiss!

But TBBT aficionados know, this is not the first time that the actors have kissed! There was a time when Raj had a crush on his best friend Howard's girlfriend (then wife), to the point of imagining himself kissing her (which was already very strange, even in a dream sequence). However, it later became clear that they were just friends.

This time it was real! In the episode of Night Court - and unlike his character in the sitcom that made him known -, Kunal Nayyar plays the role of a suave famous fashion designer, Martini Toddwallis, captivated by the luminous judge Abby Stone whom he decides to take as his muse - and lover.

This led to some awkwardness on set, the actor admits, remembering that " Melissa Rauch's husband [Winston Beigel]who also produces the show and is one of my best friends, is standing right there " while they were filming their kiss scene.

The episode also included a nod to the story of The Big Bang TheoryAbby saying to Martini: " I feel like I've met you before" - a line that " wasn't in the original script or when we were rehearsing", the révélé Kunal Nayyar. " I think they consciously wanted to wink a little. 'Did we meet in a past world where I was a different human being?'...It was definitely a nod to a celestial past. "

Kunal Nayyar has, however, made a point of modifying his current appearance to ensure that the public present on the set associates him with his previous and emblematic character: " I hadn't really shaved since 2019. I had this big beard." The actor therefore shaved before coming to the set of Night Court in an effort to look like Raj: " We really wanted this reaction" from the studio audience, he recalls. " We really wanted the reunion to feel like these two characters meeting in another life. "

A "deep connection" between the actors

In another interview with Entertainment Weekly, the actor also opened up about what it was like to reunite with his co-star after a long separation.

" It was incredible. We spent almost 12 years of our lives together every day. And then the pandemic happened, everyone had families, and I was spending a lot of time in London and India, and I hadn't been physically with Melissa for a while. "

" So throughout the week of rehearsal, we kept looking at each other, sitting next to each other. There wasn't really much to say! Being in each other's presence was a real joy. ", he added.

Kunal Nayyar also praised her friend, citing their "deep bond" after years of working together.

" We are very, very close. She is to me like a sister I never had... It's an unspoken language of deep love, deep trust and deep connection that you can only experience if you take a journey like that together for all this long period. Our relationship therefore goes beyond proximity. It's just deeper than that. "

The actor loved seeing her so much that he asked her if he could add a line of dialogue that could perhaps bring him back into the series: " Till we Meet Again", pour " in case we want to revisit this. And it was a subtle way of saying to Melissa, 'I'd love to come back, obviously, play again, work with you again and enjoy the incredible work that this has been. "

Night Court is the continuation of the series Night Court (1984-1992) which had the habit of bringing back its guest stars, a tradition that Kunal Nayyar hopes to relaunch: " I don't want to be presumptuous, but I would happily return. "

Raj dans le spin-off de The Big Bang Theory ?

Regarding the spin-off of The Big Bang Theory in development on HBO's Max streaming service, Kunal Nayyar says he knows as little as the public.

" To be honest, I haven't heard anything about it other than what the media said," he told TVLine. "I'm not entirely sure what it is. "

Announced for the first time last April - only four years after the end of the series and three weeks before the writers' strike - the project would not yet be developed.

However, there is still a possibility that it will actually take place. In 2019, Chuck Lorre suggested he had an idea. Could this involve Raj, the only member of the group of friends who didn't meet his other half in the series finale? Would his interpreter be ready to reprise his role as an astrophysicist who has always hoped to find love like in romantic films?

" To be honest, it seems a little too soon", replied the main person concerned. " Can you make a [reboot] only four years after the end of your series? This isn't a reunion series; it's just another season. "

That said, it doesn't completely close the door on opportunity. " And [le spin-off] should happen, we'll see what the universe says. "

In between Night Court and The Big Bang Theory, the spin-off, one thing is certain Kunal Nayyar stay tuned. Word to the wise, hello.

Night Court season 2 is currently airing on NBC in the United States. The 12 seasons of The Big Bang Theory, for their part, can be seen in streaming on Netflix and Prime Video.
