The State of the Blog, December 2016

Posted on the 14 December 2016 by Christopher Saunders
The State of the Blog, December 20162016 has been as bad a year for me as everyone else, perhaps even more so, considering that I've lost my job and been struggling with severe depression ever since. I don't like to burden my readers with my personal feelings often, but this seems an appropriate time to take stock.
First, the redesign. While I miss my Charge of the Light Brigade cartoon banner, I find the Dynamic format better-looking and easier to use.
Secondly, more history articles. Also simple. I try to avoid discussing politics directly for obvious reasons, and since I'm filled with rage over recent events, it's been difficult. Writing about an historical situation with modern parallels (eg., the Know-Nothings) is more cathartic and productive than screaming about the tangerine bastard of Silvio Berlusconi and George Wallace slithering its way towards the Oval Office.
Hopefully you're finding these articles informative, or even enjoyable. If not, fear not. This blog will still be first and foremost a film blog; any pieces on History or Literature will only be periodic special events, unless there's an overwhelming demand for American political arcana.
There's about two weeks left in the year, and you can look forward to a few more posts on Know-Nothings, with ordinary reviews interspersed as appropriate. I plan to do my annual Best and Worst list, and since I've read a mountain of books this year, I may do an additional post (or posts) on that subject.
Thanks for those of you still reading this blog. Here's to happier times ahead.
