When we first moved into our house a few years ago, I was obsessed with the idea of a topiary house plant, namely the ones with a skinny little “trunk” and pouf ball of greenery on top. I even tried patiently growing one from scratch from this Martha Stewart tutorial.
Several months ago I got the topiary bug again and decided to try and mimic the topiary look I love with a palm tree-type plant. It has the same skinny trunk/top-heavy pouf combo as my original topiary inspiration. These plants had been at my office for the last several years after having made the trek with me from California to Seattle. I put them in two tall planters and viola!
I like that they’re less formal and more fun than a traditional well-trimmed topiary–perhaps the topiary’s fun cousin “Fauxy”?

P.S. This is the buffet in our dining area, in desperate need of a color infusion and some sort of quirky vignette. I’m currently collecting inspirations for it!
