The Sony Xperia Sola Has a Sudden Price Cut

Posted on the 30 January 2013 by Gunsirit @gunsirit

I am particularly interested in this phone because of the price cut that the device has been given. The Sony Xperia Sola was first introduced in March 2012 with a retail price of RM999, a mid-range phone introduced by Sony along with other models such as the Sony Xperia P and Xperia U. About a year later the phone is priced between the range of RM600 to RM650, at Lazada the price is about RM650 and on Lelong the price varied from RM625 to RM675. Perhaps you may even get a better deal on a phone shop near you and if you prefer to buy online, please check on the authenticity of the device and of course the seller too, be careful because there are so many scammers on the internet nowadays.

I am not going to five a review of the phone here because you can have a lot of good reviews on the internet, I am only focusing on the price cut and perhaps a little bit of why the phone is special.

Why the phone is special? firstly, the phone is dual-core 1GHz Cortex-A9 processor with a NovaThor U8500 chipset and Mali-400 Graphic Processor Unit or GPU. It is also equipped with 512 RAM, 8GB of internal storage and external storage can be expanded through a microSD up to 32GB. So, for a normal operation such as playing games, videos and taking pictures won’t be a problem at all.

Secondly, the display is a RD (Reality Disply) 3.7-inch LED-backlit LCD, capacitive touchscreen, offering 16M colors with Sony Mobile BRAVIA engine, the Size is 480 x 854 pixels (~265 ppi pixel density) multitouch up to 4 fingers and a protective Scratch-resistant glass. It’s main feature is actually a the FTD - Floating touch display that allows a user to navigate the web by hovering his finger above the screen so it acts like a moving cursor without having to touch the screen, this feature is explained briefly in the video below.

Thirdly, the camera is a decent 5MP at the resolution of 2592х1944 pixels, equipped with autofocus and LED flash. It also features Geo-tagging, touch focus, face and smile detection, 3D sweep panorama, image stabilization and can videos at 720p@30fps.

In term of connectivity, the device supports 2G as well as 3G networks, GPRS Up to 100 kbps, EDGE Up to 296 kbps Speed HSDPA at 14.4 Mbps; HSUPA at 5.76 Mbps,  WLAN Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, DLNA, Wi-Fi hotspot Bluetooth v3.0 with A2DP, EDR NFC, and microUSB v2.0 with USB Host.

And most of all although the Xperia Sola runs on Android Gingerbread but is up-gradable to Ice Cream Sandwich which is good news for potential buyers, not all devices powered by Android Gingerbread can be upgraded to ICS but the Sola does.
