The Small Screen Diaries- The Weekly Rankings

Posted on the 04 May 2025 by Sirmac2 @macthemovieguy

And now for another rundown of what is floating around on my watchlist, and a completely subjective ranking system. Joining in this week are some new shows: The Four Seasons (Netflix), Black Mirror (Netflix),

Wandla (Apple Plus), Careme (Apple Plus), Jeopardy Masters (Hulu), The Rehearsal (MAX), YOULO (mAX), and The Walking Dead: Dead City is now being watched on two different streamers in two different seasons.

WINNER: The Handmaid’s Tale (Hulu) with audio description- Regaining the top spot after ripping the rug out from underneath June is the final season of this excellent Hulu show. It helps that once again I didn’t watch a new episode of Hacks within the time frame.

Runner Up: Hacks (MAX) with audio description- they just flip back and forth, but I’m only two episodes into the new season, and I know i need to get more into it. I like spacing this sow out.

#3- The Studio (Apple Plus) with audio description- After it turns out the new Kool Aid movie might be a hit, the gang spent a lot of time debating just how racist their film was, what maybe the right amount would be, and how to fix it, and if fixing it was inherently racist. Rogen just had a deeply frank conversation in hilarious form that I no doubt believe has happened in production companies in Hollywood.

#4- The Last Of us (MAX) with audio description- I’m still very much not crazy about their big choice, but that third episode was still well written, and exactly what was needed to follow up the previous episode.

#5- The Righteous Gemstones (MAX) with audio description- Next week it airs its final episode, so it will make its final appearance on the list. i will miss the Gemstone clan, and I definitely think they had more than four seasons to give. However, it is good to go out on a high note.

#6- Etoile (Amazon) with audio description- Three episodes in, and I’m in love with Amy Sherman Palladino’s new dance dramady which has a terrific ensemble and is so easy to get into.

#7- Last week Tonight (MAX) no audio description- Back with a new episode, so it regained footing on the list. Pretty consistently the highest ranked series without audio description on the list.

#8- Your Friends And Neighbors (Appple Plus) with audio description- this Jon Hamm show also has me three episodes in, and I’m digging this new prestige drama. With so many drama series contenders this year, will apple’s new show be able to break into the Emmy race in any meaningful way?

#9- St Dennis Medical (Peacock) with audio description- Rockets up into the Top 10 thanks to some exiting series and its continued excellence. I’m near the end of the season, but not yet.

#10- From (MGM Plus) with audio description- Still have not started the second season.

#11- Black Mirror (Netflix) with audio description- Even though the streamer started me on a weird episode, and now I have to selectively figure out where to go next week, I can say that the one episode I did watch ‘Common People’ was excellent, and I have no problem putting this here as a nice starting place for the series.

#12- Jurassic World: Chaos Theory (Netflix) with audio description- I am quite a fan of the show. The last episode name dropped Owen Grady, and I’d love to see Chris Pratt voice his character in this show. it probably wouldn’t be him, but it was better than at least two of the three live action movies he agreed to.

#13- Midcentury Modern (Hulu) with audio description- it keeps climbing up he list. i have really enjoyed the continuing banter between the cast, and I hope Hulu is keeping this one around.

#14- Andor (Disney Plus) with audio description- This feels right. I’m now halfway done with the final season of the show, and the release pattern is a bit much.

#15- Elzabeth (Paramount Plus) with audio description- A consistent performer. I’m not sure how many episodes are left, but I know it is airing its season finale this week. I’m definitely not caught up.

#16- Pop culture Jeopardy (Amazon) with audio description- i didn’t watch a new episode, and I still need to finish the first season.

#17- Jeopardy Masters (Hulu) no audio description- The first episode failed to port audio description for the next day, so it felt appropriate to put this below the version that does have it.

#18- You (Netflix) with audio description- Oh, joe, what have you done? I’m two episodes into the final season.

#19- dope thief (Apple Plus) with audio description- This show finished, so it won’t appear next week. I thought Brian Tyree Henry was very good, and i hope he gets some awards buzz. No second season, please. Let it stay a limited series.

#20- The daily Show (Paramount Plus) no audio description- came back with new episodes, and i watched it twice last week.

#21- Deli Boys (Hulu) with audio description- This comedy keeps climbing, and i have 1 episode left, so next week is certainly the last week. i really appreciate the audio description on this series.

#22- The Bondsman (Amazon) with audio description- another show I have 1 episode left, and i also hope gets renewed. I shall be finishing this series next week.

#23- Matlock (Paramount Plus) with audio description- I’m also down to one last episode of Matlock for the season. Who hid the files?

#24- Dying For Sex (Hulu) with audio description- excellent performances in a limited series which I also only have 1 episode left. it seems to be a growing trend.

#25- The Walking deadd: dead city (AMC Plus and Netflix)- No/yes Audio description- I was rewatching, and i have 2 old episodes left, and I’ve seen the season premiere, which does not have it, so I bumped it up a little to reflect the new season.

#26- Ghosts (Paramount Plus) with audio description- Starting to regain positioning after I forgot to watch it for a couple of weeks.

#27- Good American Family (Hulu) with audio description- bumped it up a bit because I thought it finished strong, though the series has problems overall. I liked it more than the finale to Happy Face which we will get to.

#28- Top Chef (Peacock) with audio description- A steady performer likely to get a bumpy next week during my favorite episode. restaurant Wars!

#29- Running Point (Netflix) with audio description- Another show with one episode left.

#30- Survival Of The Thickest (Netflix) with audio description- Luca’s back, but will anyone care? that’s the big question. then again, he did move back….

#31- the Rookie (Hulu) with audio description- I did not like that documentary episode, the last one I watched, so this dipped in the rankings.

#32- #1 Happy Family USA (Amazon) with audio description- Three episodes in, and I’m enjoying this brand of adult animation.

#33- wandla (Apple Plus) with audio description- Back for a second season, and I’m pretty happy about it. though, she did have to leave basically everyone behind, which wasn’t what I was expecting.

#34- Happy face (Paramount Plus) with audio description- i dropped it a lot after the series finale tried to pull out a second season thread. no. Just stop. I love some of the performances, but Denis Quaid is miscast, and we need to just invest in other shows.

#35- Million Dollar Secret (Netflix) with audio description- i finished it. Not the winner I expected or hoped for, but also I wasn’t rooting against them. Show won’t be back on the list next week.

#36- Ransom canyon (Netflix) with audio description- This Yellowstone meets virgin River drama is OK. Reliable, and i think whatever audience it is reaching likely loves it.

#37- Tracker (Paramount Plus) with audio description- A steady reliable performer. That’s what I always say. Not amazing, but I can watch it just fine every week.

#38- American Idol (Hulu) no audio description- It always comes down to the talent. it is a shame i have no idea what anyone looks like ever in this show anymore.

#39-The Wheel of time (Amazon) with audio description- Two episodes left here. it is a little confusing, which keeps it low. There’s a lot happening, and it has a huge cast.

#40- The Rehearsal (MAX) with audio description-I’ve seen two of the episodes from the 1st season as I work to catch up. What a weird and interesting premise. I’m not sure if I’ll love it long term or not. A very specific style of humor, but also kinda dramatic at times.

#41- #41- SNL (Peacock) with audio description- Bumbped it up a little after watching the Mikey Madison episode finally.

#42- The Masked Singer (Hulu) no audio description- I let this slide a bit because that whole fake “no elimination” episode was a little silly this week. next week is the finale.

#43- the four Seasons (Netflix) with audio description- I did not like the series premiere. I’m hoping it gets better. The talent is just so good. I don’t want it to be this low.

#44- The great North (Hulu) no audio description- Just a reliable adult animated show I’m stuck on.

#45- North of north (Netflix) with audio description- A totally serviceable comedy. I believe I have two episodes left.

#46- 911 (Hulu) with audio description- As a longtime fan, I’m noticing the writing is getting more uneven, which is also a problem for The Rookie and Will Trent. What is going on at ABC?

#47- Suits LA (Peacock) with audio description- I didn’t watch a new episode. it slid a spot.

#48- Government cheese (Apple Plus) with audio description- Apple makes better shows. I know they do.

#49- Kareem (Apple plus) with audio description- this international show from France I’m technically not spelling correctly is fine, but other International shows from Apple have struck my fancy more (Pachenko, Where’s Wanda, Women in Blue). We’ll see if I stick with this.

#50- Survivor (paramount Plus) with audio description- Good old reliable Survivor. Pretty much staying the same every week.

#51- battle camp (Netflix) with audio description- I’m three episodes into this new Netflix reality show, and it is Ok.

#52- gotta get Out (Hulu) with audio description- I can say the same thing here. it’s fine.

#53- Will Trent (Hulu) with audio description- Hulu actually wouldn’t play the new episode when i wanted to watch it, so i still need to watch the episode.

#54- 1923 (Paramount Plus) with audio description- I’m fairly close to finishing the Yellowstone spinoff I didn’t think I would finish.

#55- Mobland (Paramount Plus) with audio description- it is a little confusing. I want to like it. tom hardy, Pierce Brosnan, Helen Mirren all directed by guy Ritchie? i want to love this.

#56- Krapapolis (Hulu) no audio description- Has very little chance of falling off the list.

#57- Devil May cry (Netflix) with audio description- No change from last week. I will finish this show.

#58- The Traitors: UK (Peacock) no audio description- I will eventually return to this. I think. I hope.

#59- Lazarus (MAX) with audio description- Slid back out of the danger zone. I did watch another episode.

#60- Grimmsburg (Netflix) with audio description- Also slid out of the danger Zone as I watched it with audio description on Netflix.

Danger Zone: Berlin-ER (MAX) and The Kardashians (Hulu).

Instant Death: yolo (MAX)
