The Small Screen Diaries: the Weekly Rankings

Posted on the 27 April 2025 by Sirmac2 @macthemovieguy

If you want to know all the shows I’m keeping up with, and generally how I rank them, this is that list. Fighting for spots this week are Andor (Disney Plus), You (Netflix), Etoile (Amazon) and Battle Camp (Netflix).

WINNER: Hacks (MAX) with audio description- Hacks debuted on top, but slipped a spot after going a week without a watch. well, I’m now two episodes in, and even though the top shows are competitively excellent, hacks feels like the best thing I’m watching right now. Can it win the Emmy for comedy series?

Runner Up: The Handmaid’s Tale (Hulu) with audio description- Last week’s temporary winner is flipping back into the second spot. I’m sure with 8 drama slots, and this being the final season, it is still a lock for the Drama Series nomination. Who will get individual acting nominations? Can anyone win?

#3- The Studio (Apple Plus) with audio description- the new Seth Rogen comedy is a bright spot, and hilariously debated the validity of art while using the most extreme examples. Is Josh Hutcherson getting covered in diarrhea art? The debate of our lifetime.

#4- The Last Of us (MAX) with audio description- I did let it slip a point in the ranks, because, well, I’m sure you have heard by now. It is impossible to miss. I do not know how they will recover from that choice. I have both left shows when the wrong person left, and also stayed when everyone else left. i haven’t written off the show yet, but I’m very cautious. However, in terms of quality, if you take the Joel/ellie stuff out, the fight in Jackson was epic.

#5- The righteous gemstones (MAX) with audio description- As the gemstone clan comes closer to wrapping it up, it is nice to see these awkward moments, like having to use jetpacks to get into a treehouse. If that doesn’t sound fun, I don’t know what does. This show is 24/7 absurdity, and I love it.

#6- Your Friends And neighbors (Apple Plus) with audio description- The new prestige drama from Apple has a wealthy man (Jon Hamm) ripping off people like him to keep his appearance of wealth. it is an excellent show, and the last episode had an “Ass mobile”. Don’t ask, just watch.

#7- Etoile (Amazon) with audio description- The new ballet drama from the creators of Maisel and Gilmore Girls instantly brings you in with just the first episode. The highest debut of the week. I think this could be an Emmy contender.

#8- Last Week tonight (MAX) no audio description- No new episode on Easter, so it slipped a bit.

#9- the Residence (Netflix) with audio description- I finished this Shonda Rhimes murder mystery, and I just need assurances that uzo Aduba will continue her character in future seasons. I actually did not get the killer right, not even close. I like being surprised.

#10- From (MGM Plus) with audio description- Continues to slip a little each week until I watch the Season 2 premiere.

#11- Abbott Elementary (Hulu) with audio description- the season finale was surprisingly calm, and I am glad this is returning next fall. It is still creatively strong.

#12- St Dennis Medical (Peacock) with audio description- this keeps bouncing back and forth between itself and Abbott in the rankings. The difference is that I finally finished Abbott, and this has new episodes left, so next week it has no competition to jockey with. Surprisingly good for a network comedy.

#13- Jurassic world: Chaos Theory (Netflix) with audio description- I’m a long time fan of this, and its predecessor, so it ranks unnaturally high on my list. yes, even above Andor.

#14- Andor (Disney Plus) The thre episode a week format is going to break me. I don’t love binge watching, and I respect cliffhangers. I’m already caught up with this show, and three more episodes drop next week. Calm down.

#15- Pop culture Jeopardy (Amazon) with audio description- Bounced back up a spot after I watched an episode.

#16- Midcentury modern (Hulu) with audio description- Steadily climbing every week. I love the chemistry of the cast, and I’m hoping the ratings are good enough for Hulu to stick with it.

#17- Elzabeth (Paramount Plus) with audio description- It is regaining position after going a week without me having watched an episode. Not that Elzabeth ever drops too far.

#18- the Bondsman (Amazon) with audio description- I’m close to being done with Kevin Bacon’s supernatural horror, but I’m still waiting to see that Amazon is sticking with it. I don’t remember them sticking around Kevin bacon’s last Amazon series, good dick.

#19- You (Netflix) with audio description- I’m shocked this series is still going, and that I still like it this far into joe’s madness. he’s not dexter, he’s not doing the lord’s work. but, the show is well written and acted.

#20- Have I got News for You (MAX) no audio description- I’m glad they announced the renewal in the season finale. This will fall off the list for a little until Season 3 premieres.

#21- Dope thief (Apple Plus) with audio description- Episode 7 was heartbreaking and very weird. I’ll be surprised when this show finally shows us the intended ending. Brian Tyree Henry is terrific. Kate Mulgrew is also very good.

#22- Happy Face (Paramount Plus) with audio description- So many revelations in the last episode, and there’s only one left! How will it all end? Can elijah be saved?

#23- The Daily Show (Paramount Plus) no audio description- took a hit in the rankings this week due to no new episodes.

#24- deli Boys (Hulu) with audio description- It should finish next week on my list. It has done a lot of climbing, and it has grown on me a lot. I’d like to see it come back.

#25- Matlock (Paramount Plus) with audio description- I think I’m almost done. Now Olivia knows. She knows it all. what will she do? Will she help Maddie? What the hell is Season 2 going to look like?

#26- Dying for Sex (Hulu) with audio description- I think the reason this is not higher on the list is because originally it seemed as though she was seeking her own pleasure, and she is stuck for a while pleasing others in a BDSM type of way. Not that she can’t get pleasure from it, but the search for the orgasm is still on.

#27- Top Chef (Peacock) with audio description- it’s just a competitive list. 22 seasons in, and this is the first with audio description. i wish i could trend it higher, but I love every show I’ve listed so far. ranking them is just hard.

#28- ghosts (Paramount Plus) with audio description- Slipped because I didn’t watch a new episode. this is shockingly low for this show, so i really need to get back into it. I’m prioritizing it so the next week it can bounce back up.

#29- Good American Family (Hulu) with audio description- the desire to appease all parties has it in a tone issue where you are supposed to both believe Natalia is a liar, and Christina is perfect, and also vice versa. it is a jarring technique, but the cast is good, and the plot is interesting.

#30- the Rookie (Hulu) with audio description- rebounded some spots after I watched an episode this past week.

#31- Running Point (Netflix) with audio description- KAte Hudson’s show is just 2 episodes away from the finale for me. I see they are trying to create conflict by having Cameron (Justin Theroux) return to the fold. obviously, that would be a mistake. right?

#32- Survival Of The thickest (Netflix) with audio description- I swear, even at 32nd on the list, I do like these shows, and I look forward to them. i would be sad if this didn’t get a third season.

#33- ransom Canyon (Netflix) with audio description- I’m three episodes in. I was watching an episode, and someone asked me what it was, an my answer was “imagine if virgin River and Yellowstone had a baby”. They watched about a minute, and agreed with the sentiment.

#34- Number One happy family USA (Amazon) with audio description- Two episodes deep, and it is a solid entry into the adult animation space. It has a voice and perspective all its own.

#35- Million Dollar Secret (Netflix) with audio description- I’m actually pretty invested in this. I like the format, and the way the cast has to achieve certain goals, and vote people out. Hopefully Netflix will stick with it.

#36- The Wheel Of Time (Amazon) with audio description- I didn’t watch a new episode, so it slid a bit.

#37- Tracker (Paramount Plus) with audio description- A reliable show bounces back on its own. I liked the last episode, and it had a fun fight sequence near the end that was well described.

#38- Celebrity Jeopardy (Hulu) with audio description- It finished. Next week it will just be replaced by Jeopardy Masters, so almost the same thing, but an opportunity to start fresh in the rankings. Find some better celebs next season though.

#39- American Idol (Hulu) no audio description- I’ve been fighting this show all season due to the lack of audio description, but the Top 20 were stacked, and the Top 14 is now even more so. I think they want Canaan to win, but the talent pool is pretty deep right now.

#40- The walking dead: Dead City (Netflix) with audio description- I need to finish my rewatch before Season 2 premieres, and I haven’t watched another episode in a few weeks.

#41- the Masked Singer (Hulu) no audio description- The top 5 was stacked with talent also. I’m positive every remaining person is known for singing.

#42- The Connors (Hulu) with audio description- i finished the short final season, and man was that finale disappointing. i would have loved to move it up, but I actually dropped it after the finale where they didn’t even mention DJ. Not a word.

#43- Government Cheese (Apple plus) with audio description- The streamer has a lot of shows on right now, and this one is OK. It isn’t bad, and it is starting to resemble a comedy. So, that’s something.

#44- SNL (Peacock) with audio description-I did not watch a new episode. So, it slipped again.

#45- Suits: LA (Peacock) with audio description- regained footing after dropping from not being watched for a week.

#46- 911 (Hulu) with audio description- I’m still hanging on as a long time fan, but sometimes this show is a bit much. They go a bit too far.

#47- North of North (Netflix) with audio description- this new Canadian import is floating in the bottom half of the list, but it has its own charm. I wish it wasn’t afraid to be a bit raunchier. It feels too safe at times.

#48- Battle camp (Netflix) with audio description- Feels like a strong place to debut the new Netflix reality competition series.

#49- survivor (Paramount Plus) with audio description- lots of reality shows on my list right now. I’m getting a feel for how audio description works in this genre.

#50- The great North (Hulu) no audio description- Slid a bit after I didn’t watch a new episode.

#51- Will Trent (Hulu) with audio description- There’s a moment that Ramon Rodriguez had in the last episode that was so good, I actually moved the show up a spot from last week.

#52- Mobland (Paramount Plus) with audio description- Slid a little after not watching a new episode.

#53- got to Get Out (Hulu) with audio description- a show about reality stars who aren’t drunk and can’t leave a house.

#54- 1923 (Paramount Plus) with audio description- Slowly climbing after falling into the danger zone.

##55- Krapapolis (Hulu) no audio description- I did watch a new episode. So, I let it climb a spot.

#56- Surface (Apple Plus) with audio description- I finished Season 2. i do not need a third season.

#57- devil May cry (Netflix) with audio description- I don’t think I’m going to stop before the end. So, putting this in the danger zone feels like a lie.

#58- The traitors: UK (Peacock) no audio description- i also think I will eventually get back into and finish this version of The traitors. Even without audio description.

#59- Wolf King (Netflix) with audio description- Bounced this back off the danger zone because I finished it. It now won’t be coming back on the list because I got through season 1, and I don’t need any more of it.

#60- Pulse (Netflix) with audio description- Also finished this. I don’t recommend it. It also will not be returning.

Danger Zone: The Kardashians (Hulu), Lazarus (MAX), Grimmsburg (Netflix), Berlin-ER (Apple Plus).

removed From Watchlist: Papa’s House (Paramount Plus) and Grosse Point Garden Society (Peacock)- No point in continuing with shows that aren’t continuing into a second season.
