This continues to serve as a reminder of the shows on my broad watchlist that serve as the list I pull from to make my Small Screen Diaries work every week.
Winner: The Studio (Apple Plus) with audio description- Coming in HOT! This Apple Plus comedy hits so well for someone like me that is really into Hollywood and all of its various facets. Writer/Director/Creators Evan Goldberg and Seth Rogen have an instant hit on their hands, and with a stacked supporting cast led by Catherine O’Hara, and guest appearances by heavyweights like Martin Scorsese, Charlize Theron, Paul Dano, Sarah Polley, Greta Lee, Steve Buscemi, and Nick Stoller, there is clearly a fruitful run ahead.
Runner Up: The Righteous Gemstones (MAX) with audio description- Three episodes into the final season, and the Gemstones are continuing to be the show I’ve loved from the start, despite a lack of Emmy nominations. For my money, this cast proves every week why they deserve to be called to the Emmy stage.
#3- Adolescence (Netflix) with audio description- if it weren’t for The penguin, this tight limited might have a shot at winning the category. however, The Penguin does exist. That third episode was terrific. One more to go.
#4- Yellowjackets (Paramount Plus) with audio description- the last episode I watched made some choices I wouldn’t have made, but also threw in more kindling to the eternal flame of this shows mystery. It has a pretty strong audio description track as well, and a terrific ensemble.
#5- reacher (Amazon) with audio description- one episode left before the season finale, and I begin my long wait for the next great Jack Reacher adaptation. Pretty solid audio description as well.
#6- From (MGM Plus) with audio description- I found out the stand alone app supports audio description (though I have not personally checked). it slid a bit due to me not having watched a new episode within the given timeframe. I usually slide shows at least one spot. Feels only fair.
#7- The Residence (Netflix) with audio description- On the rise as well. Shonda’s new series is a lot of fun, and has a fantastic lead performance from uzo Aduba. Also, Hugh Jackman?
#8- last week tonight With John Oliver (MAX) no audio description- Consistently the highest ranked show without audio description. no new show last week, so it dropped a bit.
#9- The White Lotus (MAX) with audio description- Man. Brothers. Am I right?
#10- Abbott Elementary (Hulu) with audio description- The last episode was pretty perfect, and the file system coding to seasons of survivor felt so very Ava.
#11- St Dennis Medical (Peacock) with audio description- Another one of my favorite comedies on TV right now.
#12- Mythic Quest (Apple Plus) with audio description- the last episode tackled poopy, who we had not seen in a minute, but really focused a lot on kids who become influencers and their pressures. A surprisingly thoughtful (yet still hilarious) episode.
#13- Pop Culture Jeopardy (Amazon) with audio description- The greatest confidence booster I have in my arsenal right now. I feel like a genius playing this show along with the contestants.
#14- Elzabeth (Paramount Plus) with audio description- The last episode where she investigated a presumably solved mafia hit was fun and right up her alley. Renewed already for Season 3.
#15- Dope Thief (Apple plus) with audio description- Three episodes in and my only complaint is that they billed Brian Tyree Henry and Wagner mora as co-leads. Henry has way more screentime. That scene where he exits the jail, and he seems to be accepting his fate, was brutal.
#16 Ghosts (Paramount Plus) with audio description- Another reliable sitcom favorite of mine. Just got to the St Patrick’s day episode, and loved it. One of these days, they’ll add a ghost that will stay. Renewed for two more seasons.
#17- The Daily Show (Paramount Plus) no audio description- i watched three of the four nights last week. Not a bad endorsement.
#18- Have I got News for you (MAX) no audio description- Amber Ruffan just got the axe from hosting the White House Correspondents dinner. find out why she deserved to by watching this show.
#19- Good American Family (Hulu) with audio description- A true crime story that is supposedly balanced, but really seems to be doing a good job of making it seem like the equivalent of Ellen Pompeo’s character got a raw deal.
#20- Top chef (Peacock) with audio description- I’m so happy one of my favorite long running reality shows has audio description.
#21- Happy Face (Paramount Plus) with audio description- The mystery is unfolding. I’m not sure Dennis Quaid is living up to the rest of the cast, but Annaleigh Ashford makes up for a lot.
#22- Running Point (Netflix) with audio description- I’m still enjoying this Mindy Kaling produced Kate Hudson sitcom.
#23- The Wheel Of Time (Amazon) with audio description- It can be a little hard to follow with its expansive cast, but the audio description is really strong.
#24- Matlock (Paramount Plus) with audio description- Already renewed for Season 2. Maddie’s sister was a bit much.
#25- The Walking Dead: Dead city (Netflix) with audio description- My second time through. But, my first with audio description. I do like the show more than this, but the second time through, my expectations are managed.
#26- Win Or Lose (Disney Plus) with audio description- Not every episode has hit me in the same way. the last episode, with Ewan, wasn’t my favorite, or my least favorite. Anthology series work like that. Though, the audio description takes full advantage of Pixar’s imagination.
#27- Tracker (Paramount Plus) with audio description- A steady and reliable performer for me. Pretty good audio description.
#28- The Rookie (Hulu) with audio description- I’ve been a long time fan, and while the bus episode was interesting, it didn’t do much to change my opinion that the writing room is running out of good ideas.
#29) Side Quest (Apple Plus) with audio description- the Mythic Quest spinoff lacks a lot of the magic of the main series, and relies on cameos from solid Mythic Quest cast to really make an episode work.
#30- Long Bright River (Peacock) with audio description- Moved up a bit. I did like the second episode, and Amanda Seyfried is doing her best work to date.
#31- Survival Of The Thickest (Netflix) with audio description- I’m glad this is back, and I’m interested in seeing where they head for season 2. the premiere basically just tied up loose ends.
#32- SNL (Peacock) with audio description- Slid a little because I didn’t watch a new episode since the last rankings.
#33- The Connors (Hulu) with audio description- I know it isn’t the best, and it isn’t even where it was in Season 1. I am still a fan. I’m glad they came back, even if it is a shortened final season.
#34- Suits LA (Peacock) with audio description- After climbing for a few weeks, it has finally leveled off i think. This is where it probably lives in the rankings.
#35- Deli Boys (Hulu) with audio description- Jumped up a bunch of spots. This is a show on the rise. three episodes in and it gets better and better with each episode, and the audio description is really good.
#36- Daredevil: Born Again (Disney Plus) with audio description- Actually up two spots from last week, due to shifting, shows exiting, but also Episode 5 was terrific. And, the audio description for both episodes was fantastic.
#37- 911 (Hulu) with audio description- Obviously, a fan after eight seasons, but like the rookie (and Will Trent) the writing is suffering at times.
#38- Going dutch (Hulu) no audio description- Finished Season 1. I would like it more if it had audio description. I have very few scripted shows without audio description, even less that aren’t animated.
#39- The Great North (Hulu) no audio description- Slid a bit because I didn’t watch a new episode last week.
#40- celebrity Jeopardy (Hulu) with audio description- It’s been sliding while it hasn’t been airing new episodes. It comes back in April.
#41- Love You To Death (Apple Plus) with audio description- Jumped about five spots after episode 7. currently the highest rated non-English series on the list.
#42- Invincible (Amazon) with audio description- it has climbed a bit as well. I’m not a huge Invincible fan, but I do like the show.
#43- American Idol (Hulu) no audio description- Needs audio description. it is time. Also, are we just going to keep having children of recording artists? That last girl wasn’t even very good. I’m all for children of former Idol contestants, because I feel like that’s a logical progression. But, would that girl have gotten in if she wasn’t accompanied by Wilson Phillips?
#44- the Masked Singer (Hulu) no audio description- This weeks contestant was far from the worst vocalist, but must have contractually asked to be sent home first. That’s the only explanation.
#45- Real time With Bill Maher (MAX) no audio description- I added this to my rotation, but I do have a love/hate relationship with Maher that I don’t have with Oliver/Daily show/HIGNFY. Sometimes he just pisses me off, but he gets good guests, and Dana Carvey killed it this week.
#46- Survivor (Paramount Plus) with audio description- i love Ava. i hope she gets to go far on the show.
#47- Wolf King (Netflix) with audio description- A perfectly find adventure series for the whole family. three episodes in, and I don’t plan on quitting.
#48- Will Trent (Hulu) with audio description- the writing has been uneven, but this last episode really had a nice emotional moment, and Ramon Rodriguez did a lovely job with it.
#49- Surface (Apple Plus) with audio description- Basically traded places again with Berlin ER. Last week I hadn’t watched a new episode of Surface, and this week I didn’t watch Berlin ER.
#50- Berlin ER (Apple Plus) with audio description- Another international show on my list. I like it. A new medical drama drops next week on Netflix. Will that hurt this show?
#51- Are You Smarter Than A celebrity (Amazon) with audio description- How many episodes are in this season? Jesus.
#52- Krapapolis (Hulu) no audio description- Didn’t watch a new episode last week.
#54- Grosse Point Garden Society (Peacock) with audio description- Continues to slide every week. i honestly don’t think at this rate, I will finished the season.
#55- The Kardashians (Hulu) I’m amazed at being able to keep watching this show. I’m in Season 1, so it hanging this close to the bottom is not a great sign.
#56- The Traitors: UK (Peacock) no audio description- i didn’t watch a new episode last week.
#57- Grimmsburg (Netflix) with audio description- I also did not watch a new episode of this.
#58- Papa’s House (Paramount Plus) with audio description- I did not watch a new episode last week.
#59- 1923 (Paramount Plus) with audio description- Also, I did not watch a new episode last week.
#60- How Disney Built America (Hulu) no audio description- I also did not watch another episode of this.
The danger Zone: The leopard (Netflix), Cassandra (Netflix), The Eastern gate (MAX)
removed From Watchlist: none.
