the Small Screen Diaries- The Weekly Rankings

Posted on the 16 March 2025 by Sirmac2 @macthemovieguy

With some shows exiting since the last rankings, and new entries including the righteous Gemstones, the Wheel Of Time, Adolescence, Dope Theif, Grimmsburg, the Traitors: UK, Denise Richard’s and her Wild Things, 911, and Deli Boys joining, how will the rankings shift?

Winner: Cobra Kai (Netflix) with audio description- The final time cobra Kai will be mentioned in a Small Screen Diary. I finally finished the extended final season, and as this is one of my favorite shows on Netflix, I’m opting to let it finish on top. No change from last week.

Runner Up: Severance (Apple Plus) with audio description- rebounding from last week, Severance is set to finish next week, and I don’t see it not finishing on top now that Cobra Kai is out of the way. This has been an excellent sophomore season, and I hope it gets the Emmy recognition it deserves.

#3- Yellowjackets (Paramount Plus) with audio description- Still another excellent show that is looking to see some Emmy nominations. It has gotten a lot weirder, but that just means the performances get to lean in a lot more on the go big or go home mode of acting. It really does explore the monster potential in all of us given the right circumstance.

#4- the righteous Gemstones (MAX) with audio description- I’ve been wanting this show to have Emmy love for years now. The season opener with Bradley Cooper was so unexpected and bold, I had to premiere it high on the list. This is the final run for the Gemstone clan, and maybe someone will get a nomination on the way out the door.

#5- From (MGM Plus) with audio description- Slipped a little because of a new entry, and I also didn’t watch a new episode in the week since the last rankings.

#6- Reacher (Amazon) with audio description- Four episodes deep into the new mystery and the new baddie. this last episode gave a lot of exposition, but all in flashback form. No change.

#7- Last Week tonight with John Oliver (MAX) no audio description- Highest ranked show without audio description. Considering everything, I always say I need this show in my life right now.

#8- The White Lotus (MAX) with audio description- Jason Isaacs has had some backlash after reacting unfortunately to inappropriate questions about him wearing a prosthetic penis for this, but the questions are crass, and i couldn’t imagine ever asking an actor that question. Still, Isaacs and Walton Goggins are having an excellent season.

#9- St Dennis Medical (Peacock) with audio description- Keeps flipping back and forth with Abbott Elementary, based on which show got a new episode. This has already been renewed, so I’m really excited for that.

#10- Adolescence (Netflix) with audio description- A debut! two new shows in the top 10. I really felt that from that first episode, I was being set up for something really special, and I hope I’m right. the internet seems to love it as well.

#11- Abbott Elementary (Hulu) with audio description- Not really much change. This is still one of the most reliably excellent sitcoms out there. I’d love to see Lisa Ann Walter finally get a nomination. Finally.

#12- Mythic Quest (Apple Plus) with audio description- Another sitcom that is staying steady as a long term, reliable favorite of mine. The last episode with the card game was stylish and fun.

#13- Pop Culture Jeopardy (Amazon) with audio description- I have no reason to lower this ranking. I still love answering the questions. I’ve never felt smarter at Jeopardy before.

#14- Elzabeth (Paramount Plus) with audio description- the last episode, as I wrote, was so well done that I actually wanted the killer to get off. I wonder if that will ever happen on this show. It would certainly be a twist.

#15- Dope Thief (Apple Plus) with audio description- i did really like the pilot. I figured this is a good place to start it in the rankings and see where it goes from here. I’ve only seen the first of the two episode premiere.

#16- Ghosts (Paramount Plus) with audio description)- Another reliable comedy with a reliable ensemble.

#17- Your friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man (Disney Plus) with audio description- i keep thinking I’m done, and then I’m not. I like a lot of what the show has done. the big fight sequence featuring Spider-Man, Tombstone, and Scorpion was a blast.

#18- The Daily Show (Paramount Plus) no audio description- I let it slip a little due to lack of new episodes. that feels fair.

#19- Vietnam: the War that Changed America (Apple Plus) with audio description- I finally caught something in the sixth episode where I felt like they should have mentioned it in the audio description. I think someone being interviewed replicated a gesture or action, but it wasn’t described. I finished this, so it won’t be back next week.

#20- Have I Got News For You (MAX) no audio description- Of the shows of this type, this one seems to need audio description the most. So I rank it the lowest.

#21- The Wheel of Time (Amazon) with audio description- I would not describe this as my favorite show, but that season opener was really pretty freaking cool, so I figured I’d launch it high and see what happens. I mean, last week, daredevil launched into the Top 10, and I haven’t mentioned it yet, so things can change fast.

#22- Running Point (Netflix) with audio description- it is a cute show, and Kate Hudson is good in it.

#23- SNL (Peacock) with audio description- Jumped a lot because of the 50th Anniversary gaining audio description. it slipped only a little because I didn’t watch a new episode this week.

#24- celebrity Jeopardy (Hulu) with audio description- No change from last week.

#25- Daredevil: Born Again (Disney Plus) with audio description- A couple things have happened. We’re past the honeymoon phase. I hated the ending to episode 3. They refuse to bring Karen back, despite the original series establishing this strong bond between her and Matt, so even when he tries to turn away, she still comes back. Well, she hasn’t. I’m happy to see Charlie Cox back, but like I said, the honeymoon is over.

#26- Harley Quinn (MAX) with audio description- A reliable staple of my diet which has started to get a little better as it closes in on its season finale, so it is up from last week.

#27- Matlock (Paramount Plus) with audio description- no change. Still in the same place.

@#28- Tracker (Paramount Plus) with audio description- Another show that is reliably staying strong where it was last week.

#29- school spirits (Paramount Plus) with audio description- Now we’re into keys, and figuring our what Janet’s key is. I feel like they are trying to find a way to keep this series going as long as possible, instead of telling the strongest story they can.

#30- Win or Lose (Disney Plus) with audio description- Slipped a little only because I didn’t actually watch a new episode last week.

#31- The rookie (Hulu) with audio description- The writing has been spotty this season, but I am still a big fan of the show. I don’t want it to get cancelled, but maybe rehiring some old writers? Is that a thing?

#32- American Idol (Hulu) no audio description- the lack of audio description coming from ABC for this program is rude and intentional. Plus, you’re telling me that son of the lead singer of the Backstreet Boys really can’t find a record deal of his own?

#32- The Masked Singer (Hulu) no audio description- FOX needs to port its shows to Hulu with audio description.

#34- Going Dutch (Hulu) no audio description- I’m a fan, but I’d be a bigger fan if this show was accessible.

#35- The Great North (Hulu) no audio description- Like a stream of shows without audio description.

#36- 911 (Hulu) with audio description- It returned to my list this week, and this feels appropriate. it’s a silly show most of the time. but, I will say that this last episode ended on a doozy.

#37- Love You To death (Apple Plus) no audio description- No change from last week. The last episode where he helped his new girlfriend’s sister buy a car was cute.

#38- Survivor (Paramount Plus) with audio description- I’m starting to get interested. this last tribal council was pretty nuts.

#39- Zero Day (Netflix) with audio description- I’ve finished this, and it really does not end as strong as it begins. they really introduce this odd memory thing, and go almost nowhere with it, and never explain it. the finale is overly preachy, and it starts to lose any gains it had. The cast had some strong performances, but this was six episodes that should have been a movie.

#40- deli Boys (Hulu) with audio description- it has promise. we’ll see if it can build on it. I did not hate the first episode.

#41- Suits LA (Peacock) with audio description- I’m actually now enjoying this more than Grosse Pointe. The tables have turned. It is up from last week.

#42- grosse Pointe Garden Society (Peacock) with audio description- I’m not enjoying it like I thought I would. i wanted another Good Girls, or even desperate Housewives. The mystery just isn’t grabbing me as much.

#43- Surface (Apple Plus) with audio description- I’m not being pulled into the mystery as much this time around here either.

#44- Berlin ER (Apple Plus) with audio description- Slipped a bit because I didn’t get around to watching a new episode.

#45- The Traitors: UK (Peacock) no audio description- it is much harder to jump on board when there’s no audio description, or celebrities. the premiere didn’t even let us finish the first round table.

#46- Toxic Town (Netflix) with audio description- Only one episode left. I should probably rank this higher, but the audio description just is not doing it for me.

#47- Invincible (Amazon) with audio description- Basically no change from last week.

#48- Will Trent (Hulu) with audio description- Up a bit from last week after a better episode.

#49- Krapapolis (Hulu) no audio description- Basically the same.

#50- court Of Gold (Netflix) with audio description- I finished this so it will be making its final appearance on this list.

#51- Grimmsburg (Netflix) with audio description- the first season is now on Netflix with audio description. Go figure. FOX can give Netflix audio description, but not Hulu.

#52- Are You Smarter Than A celebrity (Amazon) with audio description- Down a bit due to me not watching a new episode.

#53- Clean slate (Amazon) with audio description- Only one episode left.

#54- Shifting Gears (Hulu) with audio description- Only one episode left.

#55- the Leopard (Netflix) with audio description- A somewhat interesting international period drama with better than I expected TTS audio description.

#56- 1923 (Paramount Plus) with audio description- No change.

#57- The Eastern Gate (MAX) with audio description- It might fall off the list.

#58- Papa’s House (Paramount Plus) with audio description- In danger of moving to the danger zone. it has been two weeks since I saw a new episode.

#59- the KArdashians (Hulu) with audio description- Hanging by a prayer.

#60- How Disney Built America (Hulu) no audio description- hanging on.

The Danger Zone: Denise Richard’s And Her Wild Things (Peacock) no audio description, Cassandra (Netflix) with audio description, and Happy’s Place (Peacock) with audio description

removed from Watchlist: Nine Bodies In A Mexican Ward (MGMG Plus) no audio description, Black Ops (Hulu) no audio description, Muslim Matchmaker (Hulu) with audio description
