Following up on my thoughts from yesterday, after having a second performance, I want to add that I deeply appreciate when people come up to me and give me their name as a reminder, instead of hoping on a wing and a prayer that their voice I haven’t heard in 10 years is engrained in me so i immediately just recognize them, which is rarely ever the case. Some people do have such specific voices, but not everyone. Then, i don’t have to go through the “Who are you?”, or keep navigating through an odd conversation that feels like 20 questions, but really well selected to be disguised as “I don’t know who you are.” These questions include “Oh my God, Hi! It’s been… how long”, :So, what are you up to now?”, “Do you still keep in touch with those guys?” All designed to give me a frame of mind of when I knew them, if there’s something current they are doing that would reveal who they are, or who are our mutual friends they discuss, which often narrows down the field for me. Then, I really might only have one or two more, but it is just so much easier for me to get right into it with the people who accept the fact that even though we were really tight 10 years ago, it has been… a minute, and I can’t see your face.

I have one more performance tonight, so expect one more broad thought on performing as a blind person. Probably my final thoughts. But after greeting two lobbies full of people afterward, with a handful of random people trying to catch up, I just need to say those who don’t assume I have every voice stored into a data file in my brain are really appreciated.

TV Shows Watched: Silo: S2E3 (Apple Plus) with audio description, Podcasts: I did not listen to any, but I need to shoutout the new episode of The Dark Room, where they interview my boss (lol). Find out the work that goes into live audio describing the Olympics and SNL. I promise to do more when I have the time. Clearly, that time is not now.

YouTube: none

Movies: Merchant Ivory (Screener) no audio description, Kneecap (Netflix) with audio description. So, I sacrificed the little bit of time I had today for TV to give to movies, as one of the guilds I’m in starts voting on the 18th.

This space will return in a few days, but I will acknowledge that we are told Solo has some scraggly hair in episode 3 of Silo, so we are getting tiny bits of audio description about his appearance as the show progresses.
