TV News: CNN is sticking with Have I Got News For You, ordering a second season. no word on if the show will have audio description…
TV Shows Watched: Silo: S2E2 (Apple Plus) with audio description, Before: S1E7 (Apple Plus) with audio description, Say Nothing: S1E6 (Hulu) with audio description, Lioness: S2E5 (Paramount Plus) with audio description, The Masked Singer: S12E? (Hulu) No Audio Description, Frasier: S2E? (Paramount Plus) with audio description, and I attempted to watch Fight Night: S1E4 (Peacock) but they stopped providing audio description for it I suppose. Just a heads up for anyone looking to finally binge Fight Night. That audio description stops after three episodes.
Podcasts: As promised, i checked out the newest episode of The Dark Room where Alex and Lee interview Nefertiti, who is an amazing person. While I know some will find it interesting to hear her speak about being a blind audio description writer, just her journey and talking a lot about finding peace was something I related to. Hearing them talk about getting frustrated by accessibility not quite doing what we need it to, or getting hung up, and just walking away, was shit I do all the time. And for me, it feels like a huge mental brick wall that drops and I can’t move past it for a while. Really bad or too stressful experiences can turn the rest of my day into an unproductive mess. Hearing them talk about that, and seeing how quickly she has risen through the AD community in such a short period of time was inspiring. Thanks for that. I came to listen about audio description, and I got so much more out of it.
YouTube: The Oscar Expert (Review: Wicked), Geeking With James Hancock (Review: Gladiator 2), Adam Does Mvies (Is the Rock Still Worth 20M A Movie?)
Movies Watched: The Piano Lesson (Netflix) with audio description
Just a note for the Masked Singer fans, I absolutely got that eliminated celebrity when they talked about having this big moment in 2024 when they revealed something they were scared to talk about previously. That, and In knew that person could sing, and had voiced Spider-Man before. So, that made perfect sense. I also think remaining on that stage, two of the three are Chad Kroger and Hayden Panitierre.
Say Nothing’s 6th episode is stunning. In so many ways. First, the audio description was given so much to work with, from the flashback scene where the young girl helps her aunt smoke a cigarette because she can’t hold the cigarette herself. The motion of the girl pulling the cigarette in and out was so well tracked. But then, the jail, with all that hunger strike stuff. Just wow. It made me think, despite what these girls did, there is a level of being too much of an asshole to another human. I couldn’t imagine shoving that tube down anyone, but the thing that really struck me was putting two women in an all men’s prison. I thought that would work out far worse, but I think regardless of what they’ve done, bare minimum they should have been in jail with women. I don’t care about the exporting them to Ireland stuff they are fighting for, but seeing that the British public was ever OK with that… could you imagine that here? Nuts. People would go nuts.
And I cannot wait to see where Before is headed. I really hope they stick this landing, because at this point I can’t figure anything out, and I’m dying to see them tie it all together. The audio description team here has had so much to work with this whole time, and they’ve done some great work. If you are starving for a new thriller, Before is fantastic. I’d recommend Say nothing, but I was bored for a while in the first 4 episodes. So, If you feel yourself getting uninterested, just jump to Episode 5 where the series really takes off.
