I am finally moving on from that which is The Day of The Jackal, and while I would say 80% of the reason is my not liking the show enough to continue it, 20% of it is the audio description track being “a bit much”, even for someone like me, who had previously thought there was no limit. But, I have been proven wrong, and watching the five episode initial drop has exhausted me enough. Done. RIP.
Honestly, much like yesterday, the shows that absolutely killed it the most were not the new ones. Yesterday, I wasn’t as big of a fan of Dune Prophecy, but briefly acknowledged other shows had the best episodes of their seasons, and that just happened… again.
While I typically don’t mention non-audio described shows, last week’s 911 Lone Star was heavy, and this week came in with two plots that perfectly balanced each other. One was this very Scream inspired opening sequence, and the other was the cast fighting for one of their own to have access to medical treatment she had been denied for her cancer. And then, instead of them winning just for her, she ends up making it available to all first responders like her. in an age where we’re about to let the Tasmanian Devil run Health and Human Services, it is nice to have one last vestige of people supporting access to healthcare, and important changes to how insurance covers them.
In the world of audio description, Shrinking was great. Not necessarily because of the audio description, as a modern day sitcom often doesn’t have too many moments. Last week had Sean moving in and out of these rage phases which was much more challenging for the writers. but this episode allowed two characters to come together and finally say things that needed to be said, that we had been building to. Jimmy’s daughter sat down with the driver of the car that killed her mom, and the episode ends with Sean’s father finally opening up and their relationship finally looking promising. it was a great episode.
I’m an episode behind for What We Do In The Shadows, but the episode with the AirB&B, Lazlo’s father returning as a ghost, and the concept of shapeshifters, this was a hilarious episode that didn’t involve Guillermo’s new job. there was a solid Ghostbusters reference, and some truly funny moments captured in audio description. However, there was a lot happening in this episode, and sometimes the characters didn’t stop talking, so it is hard to put this on a pedestal of audio description, but it might have been my favorite episode of this season as well.
