It’s Halloween, so I hope you don’t mind, I left a ghost inside your house. You won’t be able to see him. He’s more of a people watcher. Very silent. Died way back from consumption. You’ll be fine. probably. He mainly just wants to watch you hand out candy. Oh, you don’t do that? Well, I have no idea what he’ll do then. I’m sure you’ll be fine. probably. Maybe. He’s afraid of red wine. Do with that info as you see fit.
Movie News: Variety is reporting that the very first audience to see Wicked is singing its praises, perhaps giving it a boost in this years Oscar race. Maybe.
TV News: CBS has given the George and Mandy spinoff a full season. Not a second season like Matlock, but more episodes to find its feet.

Happy Halloween. Listen, I am quite behind on reviews, and doing a bunch of horror titles for the month of October was exhausting. So, I haven’t had a chance to discuss any of the ones I really liked. We’re gonna do some mini thoughts here, but first, the dragging of Disney.
Really, Disney? i mean, I’m not the generation of Wizards of Waverly place, but you have a high profile revival dropping just in time for Halloween and you exclude the blind community? I turned this off. I didn’t finish it. What’s the point? I’m also seeing the weird incompetency on getting pass through audio description for High Potential, and I can’t help but think there are people out there who need to have new jobs. Jobs that don’t have them with their finger on the responsibility of my accessibility needs.
Now that we’re beyond that. I really loved oddity. that was one of my favorite horror titles. It’s hovering in my Top 25 of the year right now. I also really liked the vision of I Saw The TV Glow, though that film definitely feels both like one I need to see again, and one that I also would leave at a one time watch. But, really a broad swing. Sting was fun for a creature feature about a killer spider. Carved needed more intentional levity outside the absurd plot. Not everything about that film worked, and it is super gory.
I despise the audio description track to in A Violent Nature. I’ve heard TTS tracks I prefer. One of the most wasted attempts ever, considering how little dialog is in the film. It exists to be violent and gory, and that barely comes through. There’s plenty of silence to fill. The movie is also one of my least favorite, though still not Tarot, currently still the worst film i saw this year.
Anna Kendricks’ Woman of The Hour oddly kinda qualifies here, as it tackles a real life serial killer. I thought her directorial debut was strong. The Last Breath is sadly Julian Sands’s final film, and it isn’t very good. Though, again, I’ve seen worse. It is just another uninspired shark movie, but not something like Shark Side Of The Moon, which is just plain silly.
Caddo Lake has an excellent twist, but I’m not compelled buy the characters and general story around that twist. But, probably still a twist worth experiencing, and it’s not just at the dead end of the film. Salem’s Lot was exceedingly average, though better than last years Pet Sematary: Bloodlines. Bagman reminded me of the mid-2000’s PG-13 titles that got pushed out theatrical like every week. You could certainly do worse, and I enjoyed it for what it was. Strange Darling is excellent, and deserves the praise of the craftsmanship on that movie. I didn’t hate Maxxxine like some other people, though I also am not in love with this franchise. Ti West made a very different third film, with a lot of ideas, and some of them work.
Cuckoo is one of the weirdest films I’ve seen, but once you get past it, it might be memorably brilliant for all of its mindfuckery. Mr Crockett has been done better before, but this is fine. I think The Babadook or Come Play are better at doing the same thing.
Apartment 7A is dull. I love Julia Garner and Dianne Wiest, and this film just proved to me that we do not treat either of them with the respect they deserve. Long Legs is another weird and brilliant horror film. Everyone made it sound so artsy, but I think it plays just fine. Nicolas Cage is gold here, and should be getting awards buzz for a performance I dare any other actor to give.
The platform 2 is interesting, but the first one was marginally better. Beetlejuice Beetlejuice has some good stuff in there, but is overstuffed. Hold Your Breath shows how excellent the actors are, but the movie is just good not great. House Of Spoils is another exceedingly average Amazon original, wasting Ariana Debose. All of those titles have audio descritpion somewhere. Some still are on VOD services, but hopefully that gives you a few more options for tonight. get spooky!
