TV News: Never have the stakes been higher for a new Fall drama, or the pressure on a network to not cancel a series. Talk about throwing down the gauntlet. Kathy bates recently did an interview (I believe for the New York Times) promoting her upcoming remake of Matlock, and she’s boldly stated this is her final performance. When Matlock is done, she’s done. So, the only way to keep Kathy bates acting is to keep renewing Matlock? I think that’s a good enough reason. but if this is a one and done, and we never see Bates again, I think I’m holding CBS personally responsible and I haven’t even seen the damn show yet. Bates is one of the greatest that ever was, and her entire career now rests in the hands of TV executives. I trust phone numbers that show up as SPAM Risk on my phone more than I do TV executives. If I was in immediate danger, and two people came to me and offered help, and one of them was the guy in charge of renewal/cancellation decisions for any of the major networks/streaming services, and the other was Charles Manson, I’d figure Manson was less likely to make terrible life choices in this given situation. It’s really funny that I was just having online discourse yesterday about Tracker, after an article floated the possibility of a spinoff, and I said that CBS would absolutely do a spinoff right now if they could. I was countered with “After one season? look how long it took for NCIS to spinoff from JAG.” Am I the only one who remembers JAG originated on NBC? A long running TV drama that launched a spinoff that turned into a multi-pronged set of spinoffs actually was cancelled after one season at NBC, and that dude responsible probably still kept his job. So, yeah, TV executives make awful life choices.

Today, really the only show I haven’t broken down is Emily, which has more episodes coming, so I still want to talk about Fight Night. I noticed that The Audio Description project pushed out onto their socials the usual list of what is available with audio description, and I’ve tried accessing this show on two different devices, with two completely different companies behind them, and on neither one does Fight Night have audio description (as of yesterday). That’s why i haven’t reviewed it. i will keep checking every single day, but at least getting that confirmation from the ADP confirmed to me that Peacock *thinks* there’s audio description on the show. Now, how to get past the chat bots that Peacock uses in place of customer support.
