The Small Screen Diaries- 05/21/24

I finished a lot of shows on Monday. Tuesday, I finished the limited run of Knuckles (Paramount Plus), which saves a lot of the action for the final episode. This thing is still too long, should have been heavily edited into a movie that overall sucked less. I’m a fan of Adam Pally, so to see him get so much screentime in something this high profile was a plus, but this is so stretched for time. It was also nice seeing Stockard Channing, who I feel like hasn’t acted in a while. I haven’t seen her in a while anyway.

Then I watched, but didn’t finish, Parasite: The Grey (Netflix) which is just the most bonkers show. Bloody, gory, and at least Netflix put audio description on it since so many of their foreign imports don’t have English audio description. I want to be supportive, because I want more foreign content, but I also want the quality of the description to be better. I think the writing is fine, but the voice/recording quality is lacking.

The longer you watch The Veil (Hulu) the more it makes sense. It is exactly what I thought it would be, a show that reveals itself more over time, and is less concerned with revealing its hand in the first episode. I’m far more intrigued in episode 5 than I was in episode 1. josh Charles is great at playing a douchebag.

Also, American Rust (Amazon) has been excellent this season. I really hope Amazon/FreeVee sticks with this, because I think the second season is stronger, and it now has audio description. I thought it was a weird save when it happened, but I’m glad it did.

Lastly, I caught up on another episode of 911 (Hulu) from season 5, which I’m so glad I can actually talk about now that they went back and added audio description to earlier seasons of the show. I don’t know how far back it goes, but I believe Season 1 already had audio description, then it went away. So maybe they just filled in the gaps? Either way, it is so appreciated.
