TV Shows watched: the walking dead: dead city: S2E3 (AMC Plus)no audio description, Jurassic World: Chaos Theory: S3E6 (Netflix) with audio description, from: S2E1 (MGM Plus) with audio description, Got To Get Out: S1E6 (Hulu) with audio description, Grimmsburg: S1E10 (Netflix) with audio description, Government Cheese: S1E6 (Apple Plus) with audio description, Overcompensating: S1E2 (Amazon) with audio description, the Stolen Girl: S1E3 (Disney Plus) no audio description, Bet: S1E2 (Netflix) with audio description, Yes Chef: S1E3 (Peacock) with audio description, The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives: S1E1 (Hulu) with audio description, Bosch legacy: S3E2 (Amazon) with audio description, and Poker Face: S2E2 (Peacock) with audio description.
best Episode: From- introduced new characters, in a chaotic way, while continuing to move the lore of the series forward while providing no answers. I love this show. I have no idea why it got a new company for season two audio description. Roy Samuelson and whichever company was working on it did a fine job. The new company describes characters who were in all of season 1 as if we just met them.
Runner Up: Bet- I’m loving this show. I don’t know what is going on. i don’t know how this came to be, but thank you to whoever thought this up, and made it happen. there’s this kid dressed as a giant Beaver who is like the guy people have come after them when they owe money. This is how you bring anime or manga to life.
Worth mentioning: Poker Face, Jurassic World Chaos Theory, Overcompensating- Obviously Poker Face, which was a strong third. if Elzabeth hadn’t had a similar episode, I might have been more endeared by the concept to push it over Bet. I’m a long term fan of animated Jurassic adventures, and aside from a silly joke about not being able to think of what your favorite film is, overcompensating moved into the top 5. But, open or closeted, there are so many solid bro choices to make. there was no reason to have this panic mode. There are movies he could have said, with hot guys, that straight men wouldn’t have blinked twice at hearing.
Best Audio Description: Bet- I want to give this stylish show’s audio description some love, because this show has tons of flavor, and the audio description team is picking up on how the Bet team is trying to make live action manga.
Runner Up: Poker Face- A lot of little things in this murder mystery, specifics about where blood gets sprayed, an object on the floor, and what Charlie is able to piece together. Roy also is doing nice work here.
Worth Mentioning: Bosch Legacy, Jurassic World Chaos Theory, and to a lesser extent, From- Bosch has solid audio description, and I think always has, as does Chaos Theory, which I still love that they use specific dinosaur breeds to challenge young viewers into knowing more about our Jurassic friends than just T-Rex and Raptor. So, if I take From at face value, the description it technically proficient. Like, it is a very good script, but in a day of bingeing, it is so weird to just suddenly be reduced to descriptions for returning characters, and a different narrator. From had no audio description for a while, so I can’t imagine they did it backward, which I could see maybe being a reason. the other could be, if MGM Plus was looking for speed, they gave 1 season to 1 company, and the other to another, but the season 2 writer didn’t watch Season 1 to know who would already be described. that’s the hill I’m dying on today, is that while the narration is proficient, with or without audio description, these characters were in a previous season. Could you imagine if Disney commissioned audio description for The Simpsons, but sent seasons off to different companies believing they’d get the work back faster? And then every season, someone keeps describing what The Simpsons looks like to you? we have to draw a line somewhere.
Best Performance: Scott McCord (from)- of all the performances in From, there’s something so perfect about his portrayal of Victor. He seems odd, but when you start realizing he’s just been here for so long, without parents, that this is what happens when a kid grows up in a nightmare. And, even though he’s trying to help Tabitha, and believes in the system, he be shuts down when he sees a trigger, which isn’t even one of the monsters. Something else scared him, which added to the lore of his character, and the show.
runner Up: Miku Martineau (Bet)- her weird energy gives me life. As Yumiko, she seems to embody the energy of an anime character perfectly, and keeps this mystery about her. love her so much.
Worth mentioning: Eion Bailey (From), Natasha Lyonne (Poker Face), Giancarlo Esposito (Poker Face)- Bailey plays Jim, who spends the episode trying to get his wife out of a hole, only to realize he can’t go inside at night, and has to hope and pray. The other two are Charlie, and the big featured guest star for this episode of Poker Face. killer? You have to watch to find out.
Best Moment of Audio Description: Anything That Happens Underground (From)- the two cast members trapped where the monsters sleep didn’t just see sleeping monsters, but also tons of random objects, luggage, and stuff. What are they hoarding it all for?
runner Up: Tracking Charlie’s Habit (Poker Face)- whether or not Charlie is smoking, or has her vape, becomes oddly important in this episode.
runner Up 2: the Handler (chaos theory)- i still love how we are describing this non-verbal character and her emotional responses.
Runner Up 3- Heart Rate monitoring (Bet)- Another important visual cue brought to life.
runner Up 4- the beaver (bet)- The crazy lacrosse player dressed in a giant beaver costume is such a what the fuck moment. Loved it.
Worst of: Seriously, how do y’all watch these fake reality stars trying to say and do anything to get a show. The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives is basically some really thirsty ladies willing to do anything or say anything to a camera. And, quite admittedly so, since apparently half of them are from Tick Tock. I don’t know if I’m going to be staying with this show very long. That was the worst of the shows I watched, and while it has audio description, the feeling that my brain was hurting while watching the show surpassed the lack of accessibility on some other shows. I might do one more episode. I prefer reality show stars who end up becoming stars because they are somehow just interesting, like omorosa, not just the ones who seek it out and are willing to tell you saucy and sordid shit for likes and subscribes.
