Something Very Bad Is Going To Happen- Rachel’s character is gone. Her actual arc and structure has been tossed out the window because it needs her to be dumb enough to stick around. She actually tells Nicky that she’s a bad person, and she’s the one who needs to change. Poorly written, but a very well directed episode that pushes the pace and has Rachel looking for the worst drink ingredients to make a cocktail of some dark magic spin on Something Borrowed. Still well described, especially as Rachel has to scrape something… fresh… off her legs. Eeeeew.
Shrinking- Jessica Williams’s FYC episode for sure. Reeling from the heartbreaking conclusion to the last episode, she’s trying to move forward, remain professional, and grieve. Those things don’t go together, and the ensemble around her is trying to help her as much as possible. Jimmy has a date, which is very odd. If there was Emmy justice this year, this would sweep where shows like The Bear and Abbott Elementary previously have. the most recent seasons of The Bear and Abbott have been some of their weakest, yet I’d nominate Jason Segal, Harrison Ford, Michael Urie, Jessica Williams, and Christa Miller, not to mention Guest nominations for Michael J Fox and Sherry Cola.
Ponies- I started out really liking the series, then I thought it got lost a bit in the weeds with the plot, and got a little too serious in its tone. Not that it was a comedy, but there’s a bit of levity in the premise. Toward the end, as the two leads are seeking closure, I wondered why this series needed so many subplots. Why couldn’t it just be the widows going undercover to figure out what happened to their husbands?
School Spirits- This series is so weird now, which says a lot for the show. But nearing the end of its third season, School Spirits certainly is pushing more and more into the horror genre, and special guest Jennifer Tilly isn’t being used to her full potential. Just saying. the audio description is great though.
Love Story- Pretty much everyone featured in Ryan Murphy’s Love Story, who are still alive, think it’s a joke. I tend to agree, but Ryan Murphy no longer makes quality television. Naomi Watts did OK I guess, but Natalie Portman did it better.
